Congratulations to our newest full-time firefighter, Tyler Devine.

Tyler began his fire service career with the Perry Joint Fire District approximately six years ago as a Fire Cadet before joining the department as a part-time firefighter three years later. Through his dedication, commitment to continuous learning, and strong work ethic, Tyler has consistently proven himself to be a valuable asset to the organization.

This full-time opportunity comes as a result of an upcoming retirement, and it is a well-deserved achievement. We are proud of Tyler’s accomplishments and look forward to watching him continue to grow in his career as he begins this new chapter with A-Shift at Station #2.

Today, C-shift conducted comprehensive vehicle extrication training, focusing on both patient access and responder safety. Crews trained with pneumatic lifting airbags to safely raise vehicles off pinned victims and utilized hydraulic spreaders to force open doors compromised by collision damage. We also practiced roof removal techniques to improve patient access, brake pedal displacement to free entrapped lower extremities, and dash roll-up procedures to create additional space for victims pinned in the driver's seat.

Additional training included hood removal to gain access to engine compartments, proper glass management techniques to safely remove vehicle glass, and vehicle stabilization methods to ensure a secure work environment throughout the extrication process. Patient care remained a primary focus during all evolutions, reinforcing the importance of balancing technical rescue operations with effective medical treatment.

🚒 B-Shift Vehicle Extrication Training 🚒

Today, B-Shift members participated in a hands-on vehicle extrication training designed to enhance the skills needed to safely and efficiently rescue occupants involved in motor vehicle crashes.

As vehicle technology continues to evolve, so do the challenges faced by emergency responders. Today's training gave members the opportunity to practice critical extrication techniques, including stabilization, glass management, door and roof removals, patient access, and vehicle disentanglement, while working together to solve realistic rescue scenarios.

Continuous training like this helps ensure our firefighters remain prepared to respond safely, effectively, and efficiently when called upon during real emergencies.

A special thank you to Kings Towing & Recovery for providing the vehicles and allowing us to use their facility for this valuable training opportunity. Your support helps us better prepare to serve our community.

On Wednesday, May 27, Perry Elementary School's 3rd grade students participated in a walk through Perry Village to learn firsthand how community services operate and serve residents every day.

We were happy to be one of their stops and provide the students with an inside look at how the Fire Department functions within our community. The students had the opportunity to learn about the services we provide, see our equipment, and gain a better understanding of the role firefighters play in keeping our community safe.

Thank you to Perry Elementary School, the teachers, and the students for spending part of your day with us. We always enjoy the opportunity to connect with our community. 🚒
