Over two enriching days at the Sampoorna 2.0 Retreat, members from 15+ organisations came together as a consortium to co-create strategies and implementation plans for strengthening narrative building around SEL as a crucial aspect of childhood development.

We were also honoured to have Dr. Avinav Kumar, State Program Officer (Quality Education) from Jharkhand Education Project Council join us on Day 2 and motivate the team with his encouraging words.

The retreat was truly a meaningful space for collaboration, reflection, and collective action towards reaching every child in Jharkhand.

A meaningful 4-day visit by the Leadership for Equity (LFE) team from Andhra Pradesh as we strengthen our collaboration for work in KGBVs in Andhra Pradesh, with Ugam as a knowledge partner.

The team spent time visiting schools, interacting with fellows and the Ugam team, and deeply understanding our work around Bal Sansad, Menstrual Health & Hygiene (MHM), and gender programs.

Grateful for the rich exchanges, reflections, and shared learning towards creating more gender-transformative and inclusive school spaces.

At KGBVs, our assembly interventions are becoming spaces of joyful learning and expression
Through open-ended questions, girls are encouraged to think, reflect, and share their voices with confidence. Alongside this, Bal Geets bring energy, creativity, and togetherness into the school environment.

These small yet meaningful practices are helping create more participatory, engaging, and child-friendly spaces for learning.

In many Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalayas (KGBVs), Bal Sansads are becoming stronger platforms for student leadership and participation. Students have collectively created vibrant Bal Sansad Walls where the roles and responsibilities of each minister are clearly displayed with daily, weekly, and monthly tasks.

This process is helping build a strong foundation for leadership, accountability, and school improvement led by the students themselves. From cleanliness and discipline to learning support and peer engagement, every ministry is contributing towards creating a more democratic and inclusive school environment.

Jharkhand Education Project Council, in collaboration with unicefindia, conducted a 2-day training for Gender Coordinators (APOs) and Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya (KGBV) alumni on ADHAFULL, a life skills and self-esteem package. Using comics and audio-visual tools, the programme equips adolescent girls to challenge stereotypes around beauty and body image.

A total of 12 staff members from Ugam participated in this training and have now emerged as Master Trainers, strengthening the program’s reach and sustainability.

We are happy to extend our support in the implementation of this programme.

In the schools of Sundergarh, something beautiful is unfolding—voices that were once quiet are now finding their place on paper.

Through the efforts of our team, Bal Sansads and students have stepped into the world of creative expression, co-creating their very own school magazines—Bal Akhbar. These aren’t just newsletters; they are spaces where imagination, courage, and lived experiences come alive.

From heartfelt stories and poems to reflections on their communities and dreams for the future, students have poured their thoughts into words—many for the very first time. Each page reflects not just creativity, but growing confidence, ownership, and a sense of identity.

This is more than an activity. It’s about creating platforms where young voices are heard, valued, and celebrated.

Today, we remember and celebrate the birth anniversary of Kamla Bhasin — a fearless voice, a compassionate teacher, and a tireless advocate for gender equality.

Kamla Bhasin dedicated her life to challenging patriarchy, amplifying women’s voices, and making feminism accessible to all — from villages to global platforms. Through her powerful words, songs, and grassroots work, she helped countless women and girls find their voice and agency.

She believed that feminism is not just a theory, but a way of life rooted in equality, justice, and collective strength.

As we carry her legacy forward, may we continue to build spaces where every girl feels heard, valued, and free to dream.

The training in Chatra under the Reimagining Anganwadi Program, led by the district administration, was successfully conducted yesterday.

A total of 76 Master Trainers participated, with the DSW and an LS Trainer present throughout the session. It was encouraging to see that participants not only recalled key concepts from the previous training but are also actively implementing activities in Anganwadis.

During the recap, their engagement reflected strong retention and ownership of the program. The session on the observation sheet—facilitated through a Google Form—was particularly well received, with participants demonstrating a clear understanding of the questions and showing enthusiasm toward conducting Anganwadi visits to complete these assessments.

A focused discussion with the DSW on the future pace and direction of the program proved to be highly productive, helping align on next steps and strengthening the pathway for effective implementation.

At Jharkhand Balika Awasiya Vidyalaya Dhanbad, democracy came alive in the most inspiring way

Students recently led a democratic selection process for their Bal Sansad, experiencing firsthand what it means to participate, lead, and make collective decisions. From nominations and campaigning to voting, every step reflected enthusiasm, ownership, and a deep sense of responsibility.

This wasn’t just an election—it was a powerful learning space where girls practiced voice, choice, and leadership. By stepping into these roles, they are not only shaping their school environment but also building confidence to engage as active citizens beyond it.

Moments like these remind us that when young girls are trusted with leadership, they rise with clarity, courage, and commitment
