Since 1991, Victory Fund has helped elect thousands of LGBTQ+ people to positions at all levels of government. The LGBTQ+ leaders we elect have advanced LGBTQ+ equality, stood against homophobia and transphobia and ensured LGBTQ+ rights are protected.

The Harris-Walz ticket makes it clear: LGBTQ+ rights are on the ballot. And LGBTQ+ elected officials are celebrating!

With the help of Victory Fund endorsed candidates, VP Tim Walz ensured Minnesota is a refuge for LGBTQ+ people. His administration not only shielded abortion rights, they banned conversion therapy and made it illegal for libraries to ban books with LGBTQ+ themes. He’s been a longtime supporter of equality.

In a recent interview with The Hill, VP of Political Programs Sean Meloy noted that Walz has “showcased what’s possible” when you have pro-equality leaders in the majority.

What do you think of the pick?

🌈 Meet Aime for Iowa House, the first out trans woman elected in Iowa and now running for the state legislature!

🏛️ Aime has been a strong advocate for infrastructure, small business growth, and lower taxes on the Hiawatha City Council since 2015. But Iowa is facing a surge of anti-LGBTQ+ and anti-choice bills, threatening our rights and freedoms. Electing Aime would not only bring vital LGBTQ+ representation but also make history as Iowa's first out trans state legislator. Fight back against hate and send Aime to the legislature! 🗳️✨

I am honored to be endorsed by Reproductive Equity Now in my re-election campaign. Reproductive Equity Now works across Massachusetts, Connecticut, and New Hampshire to expand and protect access to the full spectrum of reproductive health care, including abortion, pregnancy and maternal medicine, child care, gender-affirming care, and more.

By joining Planned Parenthood Advocacy Fund of Massachusetts, Mass NOW PAC, MassEquality, Bay State Stonewall Democrats, and LGBTQ+ Victory Fund, Reproductive Equity Now is the most recent reproductive justice and human rights organization to support my re-election.

“We’re proud to endorse Rep. Jack Patrick Lewis for re-election in 2024,” said Rebecca Hart Holder, President of Reproductive Equity Now. “As we’ve seen in the last two years since the Dobbs decision, anti-abortion politicians are determined to criminalize and eradicate all forms of reproductive health care, including abortion, IVF, gender-affirming care, and contraception. We cannot stand idly by as attacks on our bodily autonomy continue to mount. Reproductive freedom is on the ballot in every race across New England this Election Day. That is why it is so important that we elect reproductive equity champions up and down the ballot, and why we’re proud to support Jack who is committed to leading on a bold reproductive equity agenda for Massachusetts.”

Good times at the LGBTQ+ Victory Fund gathering on Sunday! ✊

Having grown up surrounded by anti-gay rhetoric, it’s always mind blowing to be surrounded by q***r folks pushing for change in politics. It was wild to go from the q***r women and nonbinary candidate forum to another LGBTQIA2S-centering event.

👀🖌A message from Cara Schulz for Burnsville City Council: "You have no idea what it meant to me to hold a sign that said "Don't Get Mad, Get Elected.

I was in the Air Force during the first gulf War. And while serving my country, I was investigated by the OSI for being gay. My dorm was searched, it was very public. My military career ended. My rank on hold. I did receive an early honorable discharge, but a code was added that I could never rejoin.

So to hold that sign? I'll have that in my office from this day forward."

We've got A LOT of work to do in Madison, and I'm thrilled to have their support. Hate should have no safe harbor in our state.

🎉 Meet Brion for House (they/she) – a powerhouse champion for justice and equality! 🌈 Hailing from White Bear Lake, Brion is a social justice advocate, former police officer, and a proud member of the LGBTQ+ community. As one of Minnesota's first non-binary legislators, they represent House District 36B with fierce dedication! 💪

In their first term, Brion made waves as Vice Chair of Minnesota's inaugural Q***r Legislative Caucus, fighting for groundbreaking initiatives like banning the trans panic defense, expanding access to PrEP and PEP, and creating the Council on LGBTQ+ Minnesotans. They’re committed to ensuring equal rights and treatment for all Minnesotans, regardless of race, gender, or ability. 🌟

But the fight isn’t over! Rep. Curran needs your support to keep pushing forward. With a primary challenger and a crucial seat to defend, your help is essential. 🗳️ By supporting Brion, you're ensuring that Minnesota remains a beacon of hope and equality for the q***r community.

💥 ACT NOW: Contribute to Rep. Curran's campaign to fund mailers, ads, and staff that will drive their campaign to victory! Let's keep House District 36B in the hands of a true champion for all Minnesotans. Together, we can continue to make Minnesota one of the best states in the nation for the q***r community. 🌈

🌟July is Disability Pride Month!🌟

Photo features Ashley Brundage for Florida, Brion for House, Sade Elhawary for Assembly and SCCCD Trustee Nasreen Johnson!

Disability Pride Month commemorates the signing of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) in 1990, a landmark legislation that prohibits discrimination against individuals with disabilities in all areas of public life. This month is not only about celebrating achievements but also about recognizing the ongoing challenges faced by people with disabilities.

Disability Pride Month encourages us to rethink our perceptions and attitudes towards those living with disabilities. It's a call to action to create a more inclusive society where everyone can thrive. This celebration serves as a reminder that differing abilities are a natural part of human diversity and that every individual deserves respect and equal opportunities.

If people try to tell you local elections don't matter, point them to this article. And remind them: when our rights are on the line, we have no choice BUT to run.

As Victory Fund endorsed candidate Zach Young for Metro School Board, District 3 notes in this excellent interview with The Advocate, “If there's not a q***r person in your community that's stepping up to run, maybe it's time to look in the mirror, because running for office is not for the faint of heart, it's not easy, but it's also such a rewarding experience, and it's such a great way to help so many other people whether you even realize it or not.”
