Thank you Senator Jesse Bjorkman for this oped, and your leadership on these issues. Educators make such strong leaders, especially in education (surprise!)
The Fairbanks North Star Borough is penalized for growing, because the state funds less for our Fairbanks North Star Borough School District based on our assessed value.
As we create incentives, like the multi family housing incentive, and try to solve problems with local solutions, our students are hurt.
Senator Bjorkman’s legislation helps raise this awareness for legislators - when I was down there i didn’t know this!
Our students deserve support and accountability! Senator Bjorkman nails it!
Public education succeeds when two things are in place: resources and accountability. Alaska has neither.
