Committee on Senior Citizens Holds 8th Regular Meeting to Advance Measures for the Welfare of Filipino Seniors
The House of Representatives of the Philippines, through its Committee on Senior Citizens, held its 8th Regular Meeting on March 10, 2026 at the De Venecia Hall to deliberate on key legislative measures aimed at strengthening programs, services, and protection for Filipino senior citizens.
Among the measures discussed was House Bill No. 186, authored by Hon.Milagros Aquino-Magsaysay, which seeks to establish and institutionalize a long-term care policy for senior citizens and consolidate existing elderly programs and services.
The Committee also deliberated on related proposals establishing a National Framework for Senior Citizens Care, including House Bill No. 431 by Hon. Rodolfo M. Ordanes, House Bill No. 776 by Hon. Ma. Victoria Co-Pilar, and House Bill No. 4036 by Hon.Brian Raymund S. Yamsuan, all aimed at strengthening coordinated support systems for elderly Filipinos nationwide.
Measures proposing the establishment of residential care facilities and nursing homes for homeless, abandoned, and neglected senior citizens were also reviewed. These include bills authored by Hon. Milagros Aquino-Magsaysay, as well as proposals from Hon. Patrick Michael D. Vargas, Hon. Carmelo G. Lazatin Jr., Hon. Jorge Daniel S. Bocobo, Hon.Jennifer A. Lagbas, Hon.Howard A. Guintu, Hon. Eddie C. Villanueva, Hon.Joel R. Chua, and Hon. Gerald Cloyd Alexis V. Galang.
The Committee likewise discussed local bills establishing elderly care and nursing facilities in various areas, authored by Hon.Joseph Lara (Cagayan), Hon. Charisse Anne C. Hernandez (Calamba City), Hon. Josefina B. Tallado (Camarines Norte), Franz Vincent F. Legazpi (Palawan), Hon. Katrina Reiko Chua-Tai (Zamboanga City), and Hon. Maria Vanessa C. Aumentado (Ubay, Bohol).
Additional discussions included House Bill No. 2020 by Rep. Milagros Aquino-Magsaysay on the regulation and accreditation of private residential care facilities, House Bill No. 6765 by Hon. Audrey Kay T. Zubiri on minimum standards for care facilities, House Bill No. 190 establishing Senior Citizens Day Care Centers in every barangay, and House Bill No. 780 by Rep. Hon. Rodolfo M. Ordanes promoting senior citizen and PWD services through the eGovPH Super App.
These measures reflect the continued commitment of lawmakers to uphold the dignity, welfare, and well-being of Filipino senior citizens by strengthening care systems and expanding access to essential services.
