As part of the 2026 Brigada Eskwela Kick-Off held on June 1 at Maa Central Elementary School, the Department of Education โ School Health Section, in collaboration with its valued partners, provided a range of medical and dental services to support the health and well-being of both learners and school personnel.
The activity commenced with the conduct of the Learner Health Assessment and Screening (LHAS), which included basic health evaluation and screening procedures to identify learners who may require further medical attention or intervention. This was carried out by DepEdโs medical officer and nurses to ensure that learners' health conditions were assessed and documented appropriately.
To promote eye health and improve learnersโ academic performance, Vision Screening was also conducted by the School Health Section personnel. Learners identified with possible visual impairments were further evaluated through Eye Refraction Services provided by Pro-Sight Optical under the implementation of the โBetter Vision for Better Educationโ project through the generous donation of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Learners found to have refractive errors will be provided with free prescription eyeglasses, helping them achieve better vision and enhanced learning outcomes.
In addition, Dental Check-up and Fluoride Application services were administered by the DepEd Dentist to assess the oral health status of learners and provide preventive dental care. The activity aimed to promote proper oral hygiene and reduce the incidence of dental caries among schoolchildren.
Recognizing the importance of supporting the health of educators and school personnel, EastWest Bank sponsored laboratory testing services for school personnel. These services were conducted by Ecoland Medical and Wellness Center, Inc. (EcoMed) and included Fasting Blood Sugar (FBS), Serum Uric Acid, Total Cholesterol, and Creatinine testing.
The initiative aimed to promote early detection and prevention of common health conditions, thereby contributing to the overall wellness and productivity of school personnel.
The successful delivery of these services highlights the vital role of partnerships and stakeholder collaboration in advancing learner and personnel health. Such collaborative initiatives reinforce the shared commitment of the education and health sectors toward creating a learning environment where both learners and educators can thrive and achieve their full potential.
