A big thank you to all the volunteers who joined us for this weekends clean-up. From scouts to gardeners, geocachers and friends 🙌

We removed many small weeds that will save us a lot of work down the line, well done everyone! 🌱

There were also plenty of City Nature Challenge observations recorded 📱

We’re holding thumbs that the Scouts earn their badge!

Thank you again for your time and energy 💚

Get ready for this week’s Fynbos Friday 🤩 We’re shining the spotlight on the Cape dune mole-rat.

This underground specialist is busy right beneath your feet, leaving behind the sandy molehills you see scattered across the Batavia Street Fynbos Area.

These solitary diggers spend almost their entire lives below ground, moving up to 500 kg of sand each month as they build their extensive tunnel systems.

Keep an eye out for those fresh mounds and hidden pathways as you explore.

Stay tuned for more monthly updates, where we share the unique species found right here in the Batavia Street Fynbos Area.

A big thank you to the small but mighty group who joined us on Human Rights Day for the devil thorn removal 🙌

Awesome work everyone! We cleared out lots of young devil thorn weeds, which will help keep our furry friends safe from painful thorns along the perimeter 🐾

A gentle reminder to all residents to please pick up after your dogs 💚

Thank you again, and have a great week!

Happy Friday Everyone! 🌿

Today, we’re bringing you something special.

We're excited to share the vision and mission behind the Batavia Street Fynbos Area (BSFA) — where community and conservation come together to rewild and protect indigenous fynbos.

✨ Our Vision
An indigenous fynbos area for the community and future generations to enjoy.

🌱 Our Mission
Protecting the Batavia Street Fynbos Area through community-led monitoring, cleaning, and rewilding.

For us, 2026 is about growing something meaningful together. By restoring indigenous fynbos, we’re not only protecting biodiversity; we’re building a shared space that connects people with nature right where we live.

Every cleared path, every planted seed, and every helping hand brings us closer to a thriving natural area our whole community can be proud of.

This past Saturday, 17 amazing volunteers came together to care for our special patch of Cape Flats Sand Fynbos. What a difference a few dedicated hands can make!

With the field so dry, we were able to spot and remove a large amount of small glass pieces, litter, thorns and invasive English Primrose; especially along the 10-metre firebreak perimeter. These small but important actions help make the area safer for both people and wildlife, while protecting our indigenous vegetation.

From clearing alien growth to filling bags with litter, the spirit of community was truly alive. Seeing neighbours, families, and supporters working side by side; all for the love of this land, reminds us why BSFA exists.

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who showed up, rolled up their sleeves, and helped make a real difference.

🌿 Happy Friday, BSFA community! 🌞

Today we remind ourselves of the quiet beauty of our Batavia Street Fynbos Area; from delicate indigenous blooms standing strong in the sand, to wide open spaces that remind us why this work matters.

Every small plant pushing through the Cape Flats sand tells a story of resilience. Every step taken across this land, especially by the next generation, is a reminder of what we are protecting and restoring.

This space may look simple, but it holds incredible ecological value and the promise of renewal through community care and rewilding. 💚

Thank you to all our supporters, volunteers, and followers who believe in protecting indigenous fynbos and growing a shared legacy for future generations.

Wishing you all a peaceful, nature-filled weekend! 🌾✨

We'd like to thank the City of Cape Town for cutting the 10m perimeter of our area.

It’s a really nice spot to walk your dog, connect with nature, and enjoy a quiet escape 🚶🦮

We can’t wait for the area to green up again after this dry period 🌿
