Pachedu group An African LGBTI+ collective
We call ourselves. In Pachedu members' countries of origin, being LGBTI it is illegal and culturally looked down upon.

Pachedu is a collective of over fifty African lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and intersex (LGBTI) refugees and asylum seekers in South Africa. Members of the collective are from Zimbabwe, Malawi, and Tanzania; many are lesbians or transgender; one of the members has cancer; some of the members are HIV-positive; and most of the members are undocumented. Some of us have been shun by their fami

lies. Some have been beaten or raped by their community or government. We have all had calls for protection ignored or even mocked by law enforcement. We came to South Africa independently to escape this persecution based on our sexual and gender identities. Together in South Africa, whenever we can, we share resources such as money, food, and shelter. We usually meet to celebrate having one another in our lives and catch up at least once a month. We are our own loving LGBTI African village.

This World Le***an Visibility Week, we pause to honour courage, identity, and humanity across borders 🌈

Le***an migrants and refugees are not statistics — they are people with stories, strength, and the right to live freely and safely.

Some are moving in search of opportunity.
Some are fleeing for survival.

All deserve dignity, safety, and to be seen for who they truly are.

Let’s make visibility mean more than being seen —
let it mean being respected, protected, and valued.

Love and light,
Masi 🤍

Today, on Trans Day of Visibility, as Pachedu we stand proudly with our transgender community 🏳️‍⚧️

We see you.
We love you.
We appreciate you.

In South Africa — a country built on the promise of dignity, equality, and freedom — we cannot ignore the lived realities of transgender people, especially transgender refugees who continue to face violence, exclusion, and systemic neglect.

Visibility is not just about being seen. It is about being protected. It is about access to healthcare, housing, safety, and justice. It is about ending discrimination in our communities, our institutions, and our borders.

As Pachedu, we commit to:
✊ Supporting transgender refugees and asylum seekers
✊ Amplifying transgender voices across all platforms
✊ Challenging policies and systems that fail our people
✊ Standing in solidarity — loudly, consistently, and unapologetically

To every transgender person navigating this world with courage: your existence is powerful, your identity is valid, and your voice matters.

We will continue to fight with you and for you.
We will continue to make noise until justice is not selective.

This Human Rights Day, Pachedu LGBTIQ did not stay silent—we showed up, we marched, and we demanded accountability.

In a time where it often feels like the world has turned its back on q***r and refugee communities—where harsh laws, violence, and exclusion continue to shape our realities—we refuse to be invisible.

Together with the SA Q***r Movement, we took to the streets of Pretoria, marching from Burgers Park to the Department of Justice & Constitutional Development. This was not just about visibility—it was about action.

We marched for our community.
For every q***r refugee seeking safety.
For every LGBTIQ+ person facing persecution.
For every voice that has been silenced but refuses to disappear.

This march was a call to power. A reminder that human rights must be lived, not just promised.

We are human.
We are worthy.
And we are not going anywhere.

🌈✨ Happy International Womxn’s Day! ✨🌈

Today, Pachedu LGBTIQ+ proudly celebrates the strength, resilience, and brilliance of womxn in all our diversity — including le***an, bisexual, transgender, intersex, q***r, and gender-diverse womxn who continue to shape our communities with courage and love.

International Womxn’s Day reminds us that the fight for equality must include every womxn, especially those whose voices are often silenced or pushed to the margins. At Pachedu, we honour the activists, caregivers, leaders, and everyday changemakers who challenge injustice and build safer, more inclusive spaces for all.

We also remember that true liberation means freedom from violence, discrimination, stigma, and exclusion. Our work continues until every womxn — regardless of sexual orientation, gender identity, or expression — can live openly, safely, and with dignity.

Today we celebrate.
Today we honour.
And every day we continue the struggle for equality, justice, and pride.

💜 To all womxn in our community: we see you, we celebrate you, and we stand with you.

🌈✨ Pachedu Painted Cape Town Rainbow! ✨🌈

Yesterday, the Pachedu LGBTQI+ Collective showed up, showed out, and painted the Mother City in our bold, beautiful, unstoppable colours at Cape Town Pride! 🎉🏳️‍🌈

What a powerful, emotional and joy-filled day it was.

A heartfelt THANK YOU to the incredible Cape Town Pride team for awarding our community free tickets and giving us the opportunity to march loud and proud for the rights of LGBTQI+ refugees and migrants. That space meant everything. 💛

For many of our members, it was their very first Pride. Imagine that. Their first time walking freely. Their first time celebrating openly. Their first time feeling seen in a crowd instead of hidden in fear. That alone made the day unforgettable.

And when our community began singing in their native languages? 🔥
Ohhh, that was the spice! The rhythm, the harmonies, the ancestral pride — it brought goosebumps and tears and joy all at once. We didn’t just attend Pride… we belonged there.

We marched for visibility.
We marched for dignity.
We marched for love without borders.

What a beautiful way to close Pride Month and Black History Month — celebrating resilience, culture, chosen family and the unstoppable power of community.

We continue to honour our journeys.
We continue to celebrate our survival.
We continue to rise in love and unity.

Because at Pachedu, we are not just a collective — we are family. 🌍💖

Here’s to more visibility.
More safety.
More joy.
More rainbow moments that remind us we deserve to shine.

🌈✨ The revolution is colourful. The love is real. The family is powerful. ✨🌈

Justice delayed is justice denied. 💔

Kwakhanya Ntlanganiso had a whole life ahead of them — dreams, love, laughter, and a future full of possibility. That future was brutally cut short because of hatred against the q***r community. This is not just one loss; it is a painful reminder of how violence rooted in homophobia and transphobia continues to steal lives.

We demand justice for Kwakhanya. Justice must not be delayed, watered down, or denied. The system must work, and it must work now. There must be no bail for the perpetrator, because granting bail sends the wrong message to victims, families, and communities who already feel unsafe and unheard.

A heartfelt thank you to all the organisations, activists, and community members who are showing up at court, standing firm, and ensuring that Kwakhanya’s life matters. Your presence is powerful. Your solidarity is necessary. Your voices are making a difference.

To those who are unable to attend court physically — please make noise. Post. Share. Speak out. Use your platforms to demand justice and accountability. Silence only protects violence.

Justice for Kwakhanya Ntlanganiso.
Justice for the q***r community.
Justice now. 🕊️✊🏾
