Great to join Integrity 360 today to cut the ribbon and officially open its new Cape Town headquarters at Riverlands in Observatory, another strong vote of confidence in our city, our people and our growing tech sector.

This investment will create more than 100 high-value jobs in cybersecurity while further strengthening Cape Town’s position as a leading tech hub in Africa.

Cybersecurity is no longer simply an IT issue. It is fundamental to ensuring that businesses can trade, governments can deliver services and economies can keep moving. That makes investments like this increasingly important to Cape Town’s economic future.

This is exactly the kind of investment we want to attract: global companies choosing Cape Town, investing in local talent, creating skills and jobs, and using our city as a base to grow into Africa and beyond.

I visited Extrupet with our strategic green economy partner, GreenCape, and what an impressive facility to have right here in Cape Town.

Extrupet, South Africa’s largest PET (polyethylene terephthalate) recycling company, has two plants in Cape Town - in Killarney and Beaconvale - and is making a significant further investment in its local operations.

The first phase of its expansion represents an investment of more than R200 million and has added capacity to process an additional 15,000 tonnes of PET every year. This includes Cape Town’s first food-grade Bottle2Bottle PET recycling plant, turning used plastic bottles back into material suitable for new food-grade packaging.

And they are not stopping there.

Phase 2 is already underway, with a further investment estimated at around R100 million and completion targeted for December 2026. This will add another 15,000 tonnes of annual recycling capacity and take Extrupet’s national recycling capacity to approximately 60,000 tonnes a year.

This is exactly the kind of investment we want to see in Cape Town: businesses expanding, investing in new technology, strengthening the circular economy and positioning our city to respond to growing international demand for recycled materials.

It also demonstrates the value of the green economy ecosystem we have built with partners such as GreenCape, connecting industry, investment and opportunity.

A greener economy must also be a growing economy, and it is encouraging to see companies like Extrupet choosing Cape Town to make that growth happen.

Yesterday, I visited Concentrix together with our partners at CapeBPO, and it was incredibly rewarding to see how the support we commit to this sector is translating into real opportunities for young Capetonians.

The visit was primarily an opportunity to discuss the company’s latest growth and impact in our city. I was particularly delighted to hear about the extension of the Sky contract to the Cape Town operation, which will result in 400 additional jobs.

That is 400 new opportunities and potentially 400 households positively impacted by Cape Town’s growing BPO sector.

This is the power of an ecosystem that works.

As the City of Cape Town, our role goes beyond providing the infrastructure that allows businesses to operate and expand. Through our partnership with CapeBPO, we are also helping to build a steady pipeline of skilled, work-ready talent that gives companies the confidence to grow their operations right here in Cape Town.

When businesses grow, jobs follow. And that is exactly the kind of growth we want to keep driving.

Great news for Cape Town! 🇿🇦

I’m proud to announce that the Port of Cape Town has once again been named Africa’s Leading Cruise Port 2026 at the World Travel Awards in Tanzania.

This is the fourth consecutive year that Cape Town has taken this title, a fantastic achievement and a strong vote of confidence in our city as a leading cruise destination on the continent.

As part of Cruise Cape Town, I’m particularly proud to see the work of this partnership recognised. My Economic Growth Directorate also provides funding to Cruise Cape Town because we see the enormous potential of cruise tourism to bring visitors, support businesses and create jobs.

During the 2025/26 season, the port welcomed 65 cruise vessel calls.

Thank you to TNPA, the V&A Waterfront, Cruise Cape Town and all our tourism and industry partners for the collaboration. There is still so much potential to unlock, and we want to keep growing Cape Town’s position as Africa’s leading cruise gateway.

Good to see Cape Town’s CBD continuing to grow.

The latest CCID State of Cape Town Central City Report shows 29 developments, 8 completed, 14 under construction, 5 in planning and 2 proposed, worth around R12.8 billion.

This is also why our Ease of Doing Business Index matters. We’re measuring where businesses face delays and red tape, fixing those bottlenecks and making it easier to invest and get projects moving.

Credit to the CCID and private sector for the work they do, and to our City teams for creating an environment where that investment can happen.

Government and business working together, that’s how you grow a city.

Supporting businesses to grow and create jobs is a key part of our economic approach in Cape Town

That means listening to businesses, understanding the challenges they face, removing unnecessary obstacles and making it easier for them to invest, expand and employ.

That’s why I joined our DA Leader, Executive Mayor and Mayoral Candidate, Geordin Hill-Lewis, at Voyage Yachts in Montague Gardens for the launch of our Mayoral Jobs Pledge, on a working factory floor where investment, skills development, manufacturing and job creation are happening in practice.

From our Manufacturing and SMME Support Policies and Ease of Doing Business Index, to speeding up property transactions so that land and buildings can be put to productive use, and connecting more than 200,000 Capetonians to opportunities through Jobs Connect, we’re focused on practical measures that support growth.

Cape Town has added around 418,000 jobs during this term from 2021, while unemployment has fallen by 5.5 percentage points.

There’s still plenty of work to do, and that’s exactly what we’re getting on with.

A great way to start the morning, live on ENCA from the Southern Sun Waterfront, talking all things tourism and Cape Town. 🎥🌍

Tourism is one of Cape Town’s top-performing sectors, now supporting 106,000 jobs, nearly 7% of our workforce, and contributing R24.5 billion to our economy last year.

But for me, the real opportunity is in getting the mechanics of tourism working properly.

That means getting the balance right between destination marketing and destination management: creating demand for Cape Town through smart campaigns, airline partnerships and global connectivity, while making sure we have world-class attractions, experiences, services and itineraries ready to convert that demand into real visits.

Our This Is Cape Town campaign reached 55 cities across six continents and generated 250 million impressions across Meta platforms. We’re now connected to 31 international destinations, but we want to keep growing that number with more flights.

Because impressions are great, but bookings, visitors, spending, businesses and jobs are what really count.

And ultimately, Cape Town must be a great place to live if it’s going to be a great place to visit. So alongside the big campaigns, we have to keep getting the basics right, backing tourism businesses and making it easier for visitors to experience everything our city has to offer.

A busy morning, but an exciting one, and plenty more to do! 🌍✈️
