*IMMEDIATE RELEASED EFFSC DUT DURBAN BRANCH STATEMENT*

Thursday, 29-06-2023

Economic Freedom Fighters Students Command DUT Durban branch is angered to witness the act of exploiting our motive forces by hierarchy of Higher Education and Training. The decisions taken by the department are not favourable to poor majority students across South Africa, this settlement seeks to benefit individuals whom are in position of power of the ruling party ANC.

*ON BOARDING NSFAS ALLOWANCES*
EFFSC DUT Durban released numerous statements in addressing and rejecting outsourcing of nsfas allowances. On the first statement EFFSC alluded clearly to students not to register for eZaga Banking system, reasons were clearly stipulated on the communique. On boardroom engagements through the SRC Led by EFFSC, statistic of students registered for eZaga was disclosed to be 70% nsfas beneficiaries which clearly showed that students were registering because of threats raised on emails by Financial Aid Department precept no account no pay. Living allowances remains essential for survival of our students, theoretical is proven that psychological wellbeing is controlled by material conditions. Our students were left with no choice. The act of the university disrupted the procedure of postponement of the implementation of such exploiting system. Due to incompitance of nsfas and eZaga majority of students will be excluded unfairly by this new system and our students will be the subject of not receiving allowances. The university ought to remain accountable for all glitches to be made by this third party as they were enforcing distribution of MyNsfas Card. As young people we are more than ready to tackle system while it starts to be exclusional. Allowances are expected to be injected on eZaga App that lost R21000 of a student in Gauteng Province on 15 June 2023.
Understanding the exclusion that will result from the implementation of this system, out stance as the EFFSC remains the same and the fight shall continue on boardrooms and on the ground. We urge all students of DUT to unite for we have reached a stage where we are forced to advance our struggle, All DUT students, excluded or not must be on standby and ready to respond to the call of the EFFSC for we have no one but ourselves and we remain our own liberators.

*REVERSED NSFAS FUNDING*
At Durban, 314 students confronted with financial exclusion after NSFAS conducting an investigation of their funding eligibility. 14 of them appealed immediate they received the statement of EFFSC that was an arlet to students affected to appeal with relevant documents required. We are greatful to announce that their appeals were successfully approved. Students who recently appealed EFFSC is bringing them to confident that their appeals will also be approved. Non of our affected students ought to vacate at their respective residences, if ever you are being chased away report to EFFSC.

*48 HOURS RULE*
A very senseless Intiative by housing department and res life of apartheid era of DUT. Post EFFSC being in to governance there is nothing so called 48hour rule. No students must be chased away from their respective and high costing residences. Students are urged to report to EFFSC Residance Liaison committee if ever they are being confronted by the issue. No RA should sleep and wake up thinking he/she have ordesity to micromanage our students.

*SRC CONSTITUTION AMANDMENT*
On the council meeting set on 24 June 2023. The SRC constitution was an item to be discussed and amended by council members. The procedure of submission was opened for students to submit. Constitutional there was violation of procedure and constitution; there was no AGM that was supposed to be constituted by 75% of Students constituency. EFFSC is still zooming in to the matter.

*R550 MILLION PROFIT MADE BY THE UNIVERSITY ON THE YEAR 2022*
Till dates there are graduate who never touched their certificates because of historical debts. Some students are denied access to sport facilities because of affiliation fee. There is no free printing. Students levy is being taken as income without solving the expanses of Students. The university is failing to provide one meal per day for Students who don't have funding and those live with disabilities. The university is failing to provide sanitary towels for our sisters hence as the EFFSC we initiated a program of giving sanitary pads to our students. The university is most concern about maximization of profit in expanse of our students. Such a profit disclose feasibility of insourcing of cleaners and security guards. We are urging our students, leaders of clubs, networks to unite against this oppressive system of DUT.
DUT remains responsible for all students of DUT and they must use these funds for the betterment of our students, accommodation for all excluded students must be sourced from these funds.

*CORRUPTION ON THE INFRASTRUCTURE DEVELOPMENT BY THE EXCUTIVE MANAGEMENT*
It been worrisome to students why the construction occurring at Steve Biko Campus Gate 5 does not come to an end. There is alleged lost of more than R400 Million and the council hired the private company to investigate such corruption. EFFSC is looking forward to disclosed those whom are benefiting in the slogan of transparency, honestly and interegrity.

*DUT DURBAN EFFSC led SRC STATEMENT ON THE 20 MARCH 2023 NATIONAL SUTDOWN*
Dated: 15 March 2023
🖤💚❤️

*_“When we revolt it's not for a particular culture. We revolt simply because, for many reasons, we can no longer breathe”_*

Brothers and Sisters, mothers and fathers, Sons and daughters of Azania, right full owners of the land receive our humble yet revolutionary Greetings. This statement seeks to invite the entire DUT populace to join the NATIONAL SHUTDOWN scheduled to take place on the 20th of March 2023 next week Monday.

This comes from the understanding that the current sitting president remain at the center of our problems as the students and citizens of South Africa.

To name a few, the current siting president Cyril Ramaphosa is presiding over 42,35% unemployment rate, the current siting president is presiding over the highest number of unemployed graduates. The current siting president is presiding over the failed state that is unable to provide enough resources for higher education, science and innovation yet the president was found with Dollars at the Phala-Phala farm. As the EFFSC-led SRC have been convinced that RamaDollar must resign with immediate effect.

As the EFFSC led SRC call upon all DUT students, security guards, cleaners, lectures, club and societies, staff, management and all other relevant DUT stakeholders to join the NATIONAL SHUTDOWN to fight against endless loadshedding, poverty, high petrol and diesel prices. To fight against high tiuation fees, unemployment, high food prices, etc.

The current status qou does not only affect poor people even the rich. It does not only affect us as EFF/SC members, it affected all plus 810600 matriculants who are still seeking for enrollment in the institution of higher learning. It affects all academic and financial excluded students, more than 10200 students excluded and appealed to NSFAS. At affect all NSFAS students who are still waiting for their food and book allowance, petrol attendants, security guards and cleaners, pastors and politicians.

It is by the above mention social, political, religious and economical conditions that we cannot breathe. We therefore call upon the DUT management to Close all DUT Campuses not for the safety of our students but close all campuses to join the NATIONAL SHUTDOWN and demand the better life for everyone particularly Black people. Salute!

Immediate Release!!!♥️🖤💚
Dated: 19 February 2023

Populace of DUT, kindly receive the warmest yet revolutionary greetings of the EFFSC. The EFFSC would like to congratulate and welcome all students who managed to get enrolled in the institution after being engaged with immense depression and frustrations due to the incompetent and arrogant Staff members of DUT. First Time Entry Students (FTENs), welcome to the Durban University of Trauma.

*Update on the Resumption of Classes.*

The SRC led by EFFSC have attended meetings with the management back to back with an aim of ensuring that all pending issues especially registration related are resolved before the commencement of classes, however the management of DUT have dismally failed to implement all the resolutions proposed by the SRC led by EFFSC to resolve the issues of students.

*State of readiness for resumption of classes*

The EFF Students Command shall forever tremble with indignation against the unjust system which seeks to subject black students into failure. The EFFSC shall not allow the university to commence with classes while the process of coding and the allocation of students is not exhausted. We speak now there are about 4000+ beds that are short as yet.

The conditions that we are facing doesn't allow the resumption of classes (20 February 2023) because firstly not all First year students registered; not all returning students registered; not all students first years and returning allocated to Residences; students are allocated to almost 20% Residences that are not conducive; students won't be given their study material allowances; 30%+ students are expected to go to classes on empty stomach. So, with the mentioned concerns it will be an insults to students to be expected to attend classes without the university fixing those concerns mentioned.

We have then diagnosed the state of the University and seen that it is not ready for the resumption of classes because of the above mentioned concerns and reasons, therefore we would like to inform the populace of DUT (Students and Staff) that as from MONDAY (20 FEB 2023) THERE WON'T BE CLASSES TAKING PLACE UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE. We call for the University to extend registration period up until everyone is registered, and to stop their arrogance of continuing to allocate students to unconducive Residence as if students are being made favor to be accommodated.

We have tolerated enough the arrogance of this University doing as they please by continuous undermining students. We won't allow such tendency to continue under the leadership of EFFSC, DUT management must know that students are the vast majority stakeholders of this University and they must know the interest of students come first at all times.

We call upon all stakeholders of the university to join hands in making sure that this University respect and recognise the existence of students in this University for it to be University, therefore students needs must be the priority over profit generated by the University. Ever since the Registration began the University had been prioritising profit over students, the child of the working class has been subjected to exclusion and only those of the rich were assisted.

*Way forward*
There are no classes tomorrow, students must remain in their respective residences. No one must take a bus to campus. We call up on all students whom are facing issues with registration and residence allocations to come to campus tomorrow. Housing and other offices will be operating, *only classes will be not be operating*.

Kind Regards

*Update on Justice for Mlungisi Madonsela*

“Justice delayed is justice denied.”- William Gladstone

Revolutionary greetings to DUT community

05 February 2019, the DUT community sadly lost one of the most important student who died during registration period where the DUT management went all out unleashing violence against Black poor students. There was a deliberate action of excluding Black African students from accessing education, this occurred through unreasonable financial and academic policies challenges which made impossible for students to register and excel academically.

Mlungisi Madonsela joined all progressive forces who took it to the street to challenge this inhumane acts of the DUT management of deliberately excluding Black poor students. Mlungisi was registered and he had no challenges preventing him from studying but he understood that all students must get education so they can go back to their home and change the situation. Mlungisi Madonsela was shot to death by the company of hitmen called Excellence security contracted by the university. It is very sad that until today, the killer of our fellow brother Mlungisi is still moving around freely. The DUT management did nothing to ensure that the killer get arrested, instead they resorted to open cases against other students who formed part of the protest which aimed to liberate and open gates of education for other black students. The DUT management continues to prioritize profit over the life of the students. Because of his character and consciousness, Mlungisi was an active member of the EFFSC.

With the above shared information, the EFFSC DUT DURBAN BRANCH would like to invite all students, community members, staff members and other progressive forces of the South Africa to attend the case that seeks to provide justice for Mlungisi Madonsela. We demand that the justice must be served.

The details are as follows:
Date: 19 January 2023
Venue: Durban high Court.

Immediate release. 16th January 2023

The EFFSC DUT will embark on annual program campaign which aim to fight for an access to institutions . This is the program that aim to fight for a completely overthrown of neoliberal values of education that excludes Africans students on the basis of their social economic status . The DUT and other universities continues to prioritize profit instead of education. Those who are poor are denied access and those who are rich are given access.

The EFFSC DUT is preparing to oppose the annual exclusion of African students. The systems has been set and the branch is ready for any challenges. Hundreds EFFSC DUT members are will be placed in different locations ready to ensure that every students get assisted. Majority of fighters will be on campus. These are ground forces that are prepared to die for shielding the principles of organizations. EFFSC DUT DBN BRANCH STATEMENT.
EMMIDIATE RELEASE: [Friday, 13 JAN 2023]

Extended revolutionary greetings to DUT populace

"The walls of the educational system must come down. Education should not be a privilege, so the children of those who have money can study. " Steve Biko

*New year 2023*
With the above Qoute, the EFFSC wishes all DUT populace happy new year. We wish 2023 to be a student friendly year both academically, financially and otherwise. EFFSC is yet committing itself again to be in the forefront line in the struggle of championing all issues affecting students DUT campuses. The EFFSC remains and will forever be on the side of students, no matter how much the university threatens to victimize the members of the EFFSC and general students.

We are starting the year 2023 with again high moral and spirit of demanding justice where the injustice is occurring. The DUT EFFSC has committed itself in spending its entire days of existence fighting against any form of exclusion and oppression directect to prevent students from getting access to quality education.

In the history of DUT, today marks exactly 3 years, 11 months and 8 days since our Mlungisi Madonsela was shot dead by the security company hired by the institution. Until today, no justice has been served and even the issues of students that that led to this incident, DUT is till again not resolving them.

The DUT EFFSC would like to put it clear and on record that this year, the dream of strike free campus will never be achieved if the management of DUT continues to oppress our students. We are demanding the commemoration of Mlungisi Madonsela that the institution vowed to do every 5th of February.

*Registration*
The registration is expected to commence on the 16th of January 2023 as per the academic calendar of the institution. However the funded list of NSFAS students is anticipated to arrive on the 23rd of January, which means before 23rd no NSFAS student will be able to register. Our understanding of the incompetence of NSFAS staff members that has led to many strikes across the country made us propose to the institution that, the institution must unblock all the returning students that are still within the N rule requirement, the institution must unblock all first years whose their nsfas status has passed funding Eligibility even if the funded list has not arrived because there is a high possibility that the NSFAS will fail to send the list by 23rd.
Registration for both first years and returning will commence on the 16th January.

*Classes*
Classes will commence on 6th of February, we are warning again the DUT management to never think that they will resume classes while there are still students that are frustrated by registration. There are no students that will attend classes while others are still waiting for finance to unblock them.

*Supplementary exams and special exam*
All those having supplementary exam must liaise with their respective departments if ever need accommodation must contact SRC accommodation or fighters in order to get full information or direct your emails to housing with proof. Those who want or qualify for special exams must contact their respective departments to get forms or liaise with SRC education and transformation or fighters to get full assistance. We have instructed departments to process and record all results in due time so that students will be unblocked as soon as their registration date. We are expecting no expecting no delays regarding their registration.

*Registration for first years*
We demand the DUT management to look closer all relevant department pertaining registration processes. Students admission department used to be the most useless and hub of fustrations to students more especial first year students. The arrogance of Dr Nombela of operating that department like her shebeen is always causing havoc and not meeting the intake target on time. We have been proposing to DUT management that the power of registering students to be given back to faculties so that we won't find ourselves again in a situation whereby that head of Registration called Dr Nombela is again failing to meet targets on time and leading to registration continuing while classes have started. This year we are not going to tolerate that, all classes shall resume after the registration process have been closed. We also highly condem the incompetent of Student admission department's staff. Last year they gave many applicants offers and they said it's first come first serve. This year we do not want to witness that nonsensical laziness.

*Registration for returning students*
Registration of returning students is expected to commence on the 16th of January 2023, registration will take place both manual and online and fighters will be available to assist whenever students are facing difficulties.

*Registration fee increment*
It is with great disappointment to report that the university has taken a decision of increasing Registration fees. The cost of living has been tripled nation wide and many jobs were lost during lockdown and there was no means of repairing them, Yet the university decided to increase the fees. This university has no interest other intrest at heart besides the one of profit maximization. It really disturbing that students are expected to pay this much only for getting access to education. We reject this crazy fee increment for any reason. The university increased the registration fee from R4400 to R4610 both tuition and residence fees. The position of the EFFSC remains uncompressed and non-negotiable with regards to Fees, we call for free registration for all.

*SRC grant*
The SRC led by EFFSC will communicate the opening date of the SRC grant once everything has been finalised. The EFFSC have noted the arrogance and act of dictacting SRC by Mr Masiza, Masiza is just the manager of Students Governance Department not the Head of the SRC. SRC grant remains the grant of the SRC not Masiza Grant, we therefore call him to allow the SRC to lead the processes and especially the one of requirements for a student to meet in order to get grant, we want to condemn his behavior before this kind of behavior escalate. Also, the SRC grant budget must not go back to bags while students left outside because of financial reasons.

*NSFAS*
NSFAS applications are still opened till the 31st of January 2023. We plead all potential and deserving students, but not funded to apply for nsfas as early as possible.
EFFSC SRCs accross the country were mandated to propose the increment of living and book allowances since the cost of living has been increased or tripled during and after lockdown. The SRCs led by EFFSC proposed R2000 for living allowances but the old and tired man, Blade Nzimande and his bambinos led SAUSE chose to insult students with an increment of R75.00 p/st, the EFFSC led by President cmsr Sihle Lonzi will have a meeting with the Executive Management of NSFAS on the 16th of January 2023, our position remain clear with the amount of R2000 food allowance and R6500 book allowance. NSFAS also implemented student accounts called "my nsfas card" wich will be coordinated by them, means the universities will not account for allowance queries. DUT SRC led by EFFSC refused to use that system which means at DUT we will continue with the system that was used the previous years. This system will be a hub corruption and ghost accounts to ANC thugs like they use on SASSA. We thank the SRC led by EFFSC to reject it.
We encourage students to update their NSFAS profile.
Steps for updating NSFAS profile.

1. Click this link http://www.nsfas.org.za
2. Go to “MY NSFAS”
3. Login with your ID and NSFAS password. DO NOT CREATE ACCOUNT.
4. After logging in, Scroll down you’ll see a yellow circle with your initials, click that yellow circle.
5. Make sure the appearing details are correct and valid then click “SAVE”.
6. You will receive a SMS once you done.

The SRC led by EFFSC will have a meeting on the 19th to further resolve all pending issues related to NSFAS. The SRC led by EFFSC again has managed to invite the NSFAS officials to be available for the entire registration period.

*Housing*
Towards the end of previous year academic calendar the SRC led by EFFSC proposed that the department must finalize and confirm the number of beds available for this academic year calendar and compare it with number of students applied for residences. If the number of beds are equal or less they must continue to contract residences to accommodate those who didn't applied for various reasons. The EFFSC will not allow this department to allocate students in unconducive buildings and those has issues. We also condemn the contracting of shacks and old buildings and we will never allow them to allocate students in those so called residences.
We understand the laziness and arrogance of these DUT staff members, they must not test our energy because we will not allow them to play their petty politics in an expense of potential and DUT students. We know that this department is controlled and governed by favoritism, nepotism, and corruption that leads DUT students stranded for a whole semester or year like they did the previous year. So we warning them, they must not disturb our peace because we will forever be on the side of students, particularly Black and marginalized.

We are also warning housing and financial aid again to never repeat what they did last year, we are expecting the template of first years to be sent to NSFAS with the exact information corresponding to their cases. We want no issues of Res codes this year.

Through SRC led by EFFSC, we have also requested that the House committee should come back early so they begin as soon as the res allocation is done to assist students with allocation. We have noted that the caretakers has an attitude of thinking that they are owning buildings and end up violating peace of our students, we encourage house coms to report every case to the CHE ledy by EFFSC and SRC whenever such incidents occurs.

*Finance Department*
We're aware of the absurdism done by that department where they refuse to give students their academic records because of their historical debts.
As the EFFSC we condemn that nonsense, it was also resolved at SAUS that students must be given their academic records regardless of them owing or not!. The SRC is currently zooming into this issue and will revert as soon as the matter is resolved.

*Racism*
As DUT students and staff members, particularly Black and African are facing a serious racism at their respective departments. City campus and Health department, particularly EMC they are treating our brothers and sisters like animals. We want to make it very clear that this year we are going to advance our approach in dealing with such cases. It's can't not be true that we are treated like step children in an institution dominated by Blacks and African.

*Higher Certificate*
The DUT remains the institution that drives the capitalist agenda. The profit is only thing that drives the decisioning and reasoning of the institution. We are now waiting for the last meeting to take place now in January of SRC with Dean of students where the issue of absorbing higher certificate will be finilized, the update will be released after the meeting. The EFFSC remains in its position that says all higher certificate students must be fully absorbed by the institution.

*Dental Technology students*
We are warning the heath science faculty and Department of dental technology to stop scamming students, all the students that are victims of that nonsensical course must be given offers for other courses within health and be refunded. If they fail to do that, they must know that the DUT EFFSC is not scared of paying them a visit.

In conclusion we are giving the DUT populace confidence, we will continue to fight for their interests and if they come across with any problem they must not hesitate to call or come to the EFFSC because we are for students.

*EFFSC DUT DURBAN BRANCH*
*STATEMENT ON THE PASSING OF THE SECURITY GUARD.*

DATED: 10 NOVEMBER 2022
🖤💚❤️

Sons and Daughters of Azania, brothers and sisters, mothers and fathers security Guards and Cleaners receive our humble yet revolutionary. It is with great sadness and disappointment to address you about the shock passing of one of the Security Guards.

It has been reported that one of the security Guards Mr T Mkhwanazi died while he was on duty within the DUT premises last week. The EFFSC DUT BRANCH wants to send condolences firstly to the family, colleagues and the entire DUT populace, may his soul rest in peace.

The EFFSC wants to put it clear that this issue is not going to be hidden as the management together with the Security Company are trying to sweep it under the carpet and pretend as if nothing happened, DUT Management and Izikhova Company failed to communicate with DUT Community as they used to do when a staff member, lecture, or management passed away. It is Vividly that DUT Management and Izikhova do not value the service of the security guards they are just exploiting them. As we all know that the Company was granted a Contract fraudulently, and now they are trying by all means necessary to cover up their mess. The life of a black person in the world of DUT is not valued. We have been also receiving reports that these security guards are denied bonuses and payments for overtime. IziKhova security company has been exploiting our parents and many has been unfairly dismissed.

Ever since the arrival of Vice Chancellor Thandwa Mthembu, nothing has gone right in DUT except the painting of the DUT walls. The Social and well-being of our students, lecturers' security, and Cleaners is not getting enough attention hence now and then we get reports of a deceased person. It has become a norm in DUT that every week or month we are burying either a student or a worker.

What pains us a lot is how DUT has been handling the issue of funerals, memorial services, and all other processes related to this issue. Today DUT and the Security Company called IziKhova refused to give security guards and the family a proper venue to have a memorial service which ended up taking place outside the premises of the institution. It high time now that we stand and call for a removal of IziKhova, all securities must and cleaners must be insourced.

The insourcing of security Guards and Cleaners is the solution to all issues of our mothers and fathers who are security and those who are cleaners simply because they can get good salary and benefits that belong to them like UIF, medical aid and others. We are encouraging all progressive forces, students and society at large to stand up in support of the struggle of security guards and cleaners that are being mistreated every day at DUT. *IziKhova must GO!*
We want to also warn IziKhova management that they must never try to continue with this behavior of firing security guards for voicing out their dissatisfactions.

The Struggle of security Guards and Cleaners in DUT remains our struggle simply because we understand that in order for students to excel in their academics the environment must be conducive and safe. Also, before we became students we are community members. So the community wars are our wars so we cannot segregate their struggle to our struggle.

We call upon the DUT populace to unite and rally behind the struggle of workers and Cleaners. The EFFSC is going to meet with other relevant parties, structures and all affected people a communique with a way forward is going to be issued. Salute!

Kindly Regards
