MAFUBE AND DWS TAKE WATER EDUCATION TO THE COMMUNITY

Mafube Local Municipality, in partnership with the Department of Water and Sanitation South Africa, conducted a community awareness activation in Namahadi today, 23 September 2026.

The activation created an opportunity to engage directly with residents and share practical information on:

*Using water responsibly and preventing water wastage
*El Niño preparedness and its possible impact on water availability
*The importance of proper handwashing and hygiene
*The importance of paying municipal accounts
*Who qualifies for indigent support and how eligible households can register
*How the payment of municipal accounts supports sustainable service delivery

Residents were reminded that water conservation is a shared responsibility and that every drop saved contributes towards protecting this valuable resource.

The municipality further encouraged residents who cannot afford to pay for basic municipal services to enquire about the Indigent Support Programme and apply if they meet the qualifying criteria.

Save water. Pay for services. Protect our future.

Mafube Local Municipality extends its appreciation to DWS and all community members who participated in the activation.

ENOUGH IS ENOUGH | A CALL TO PRAYER

Mafube Local Municipality calls upon all churches across the municipality to dedicate a moment of prayer during their services on Sunday, 20 September 2026, in response to the continued killing of women and the devastating scourge of gender-based violence and femicide.

As we remember the women whose lives have been taken, let us also pray for survivors, affected families and every woman living in fear.

Prayer must awaken our collective conscience and move us towards action. Let every pulpit raise its voice and every congregation stand together against violence.

Not one more woman. Not one more life.

The National Disaster Management Centre has advised that possible El Niño conditions may bring below-normal rainfall, higher temperatures, water stress and an increased risk of veld fires.

While these impacts are not certain, early preparedness can help reduce potential risks. Residents are encouraged to use water responsibly, prevent veld fires and continue following official weather forecasts and municipal updates.

Together, let us remain informed and prepared.
