Today, the Municipality held an engagement session with officials from the Department of Economic Development, Environment, Conservation and Tourism (DEDECT) to deliberate on critical matters relating to waste management, landfill site operations, environmental compliance, and the eradication of illegal dumping sites across the municipal area.
The session provided an opportunity for both institutions to assess the current status of waste management services, identify challenges affecting the management of landfill facilities, and explore practical interventions aimed at improving environmental sustainability.
Particular attention was given to compliance with environmental legislation, the implementation of the Municipality's Integrated Waste Management Plan (IWMP), and measures required to address the proliferation of illegal dumping sites in villages across the municipality.

Following extensive deliberations, a comprehensive action plan was developed, outlining specific activities, responsibilities, implementation timelines, and monitoring mechanisms. The action plan seeks to strengthen waste management practices, improve the operation and maintenance of landfill sites, enhance community awareness on responsible waste disposal, and promote environmental stewardship throughout the Municipality.
Key resolutions emanating from the engagement include the identification and rehabilitation of illegal dumping hotspots, improving landfill management and record-keeping systems, conducting environmental compliance assessments, and implementing community education and awareness campaigns aimed at promoting cleaner and healthier communities. The Municipality will also work closely with DEDECT and other stakeholders to secure technical support and ensure adherence to applicable environmental regulations and standards.
The implementation of the agreed resolutions will contribute significantly towards achieving the objectives of the Integrated Waste Management Plan and protecting the environment.

Kagisano Molopo Local Municipality hereby informs residents and account holders that a structured Revenue Correction and Debt Rehabilitation Programme has been implemented to address historic billing challenges and restore accuracy within the municipal revenue system.

The Municipality acknowledges that issues such as incorrect billing, outdated valuations, interest miscalculations, rebate inconsistencies and unsupported credit balances have contributed to confusion and frustration among consumers. To ensure that municipal accounts are reliable and transparent, the Municipality utilised WRCON to assist with a full technical review and correction of revenue‑related data.

This programme is executed in five phases:
• Phase 1: Removal of historic, unsubstantiated debt prior to 2021 to establish a reliable baseline.
• Phase 2: Reprocessing of billing data from 2021 to 2026, including tariff verification, rebate recalculation, payment confirmation and interest correction.
• Phase 3: Investigation and correction of credit balances to ensure that only valid credits remain.
• Phase 4: Testing of the municipal financial system to ensure that corrected data is accurately reflected on statements.
• Phase 5: Preparation and distribution of corrected statements to residents.

The Municipality encourages residents to review their updated statements once issued and to submit any queries through the official channels for fair and transparent resolution.

This initiative forms part of the Municipality’s commitment to financial integrity, improved audit compliance and strengthened service delivery. Kagisano Molopo Local Municipality appreciates the cooperation and patience of all residents during this important process.
