The HORN Charity

The HORN Charity HORN is a South African registered Non-Profit Organization. The Vision: Our future generations deserve to witness the beauty of Africa’s wildlife.

Our main focus is capacity building of counter-poaching units that work on the frontline of conservation, through training and long-term mentoring programmes. The Mission: To create sustainable protection of endangered species by training and mentoring counter-poaching units operating on the frontline of conservation. What We Stand For: HORN is a Non-Profit Organisation that believes in Courage, C

ompassion and Collaboration.

- Courage: Counter-poaching rangers risk their lives daily to protect our wildlife. We want to enhance their courage by building-up the capacity of counter-poaching units who work on the frontline of conservation, through training and long-term mentoring programmes.

- Compassion: Everything that we do is for the good of our wildlife and our conservation work is aimed at countering the international illegal poaching and wildlife trade.

- Collaboration: Our charity aims to work with local communities to combat poaching and promote the importance of conserving our wildlife. Donate

The work of delivering counter-poaching packages in the most challenging environments is possible due to generous donations from the public and corporates. The donations received contribute to the training of rangers which ultimately builds the capacity for our projects of protecting wildlife such as Rhino, Elephant, Lions and many more. We need your donations to survive. Just ‘Give it!’

TRAIN WHERE YOU OPERATE

Life saving skills being practiced in the that these operate in 🦏

In this image our Rangers are dealing with a catastrophic or life threatening bleed. Once they have stopped the bleed they will conduct a casevac (casualty evacuation).

Our courses cover theory, but the majority of our modules are practical and scenario based.

The bush itself is such a great .

Rangers at times have to deal with armed poachers as well as dangerous game. These skills are

Some detainee handling and arrest procedures covered today. 🚔
Always a pleasure training rangers that are eager to learn and who also have a passion for the wildlife they protect.

Kitting out yet another Counter Poaching Unit with hydration packs.
The new approach to appropriate kit required for QRF teams on the front lines of countering poaching activity. I personally also used to wear my webbing or daysack. For those who have been on the ground pursuing poachers in the African bush, operating as light as possible is required at all times.

The hydration packs carry a 2.5L bladder, has a designated med kit pouch, and other small pockets for either GPS/Radio batteries/Snacks/Ammo etc.

A big thank you to one of our Directors Ramana Govindasamy for donating these packs to the unit in Mozambique.

Rhino and Elephants are not the only animals that are poached for the illegal trade of wildlife. There are less than 20 000 wild lions left in Africa - this is a terrifying statistic. They are poached for their teeth, paws, fat gland and their bones are often used for making 'Tiger Cake.' Even these apex predators need protection! 🦁 Please see the link in our bio for donations.
