Gauteng MEC for e-Government and Bonginkosi Dhlamini together with the Head of Department, Masabata Ngcobo, led the Department of e-Government's Nelson Mandela Day community outreach programme at the Amohelang Bophelong Disability Academy in Bophelong, Vanderbijlpark.

In keeping with the spirit of 67 Minutes for Mandela, the Department donated over 100 blankets, food parcels to support the centre, which provides care and support to persons with disabilities and the elderly. As part of the Gauteng Provincial Government's commitment to building an inclusive and digitally connected province, the Department also installed uncapped WiFi at the facility, ensuring that caregivers, residents and the centre itself have access to digital services and opportunities.

Speaking during the visit, MEC Dhlamini reaffirmed that the Government of Provincial Unity remains committed to ensuring that no community is left behind. He emphasised that technology must not only drive economic growth but must also improve the dignity, safety and quality of life of society's most vulnerable citizens. During his speech, the MEC also committed to deploy a team to train the disabled on how to use various ICT codes.

In closing, he further announced that the Department will return to the facility to install CCTV cameras, strengthening security through smart technology and demonstrating government's commitment to safer and more caring community institutions.

The 2026 G13 Hackathon Grand Finale has successfully concluded

Gauteng MEC for e-Government and IFP's Bonginkosi Dhlamini delivered the keynote speech at the G13 Hackathon Grand Finale Awards Ceremony, held at Microsoft South Africa, Johannesburg, where he praised Gauteng's brightest young innovators for using technology to tackle real-world problems.

Over the past few days, the top 50 participants from Gauteng's five regions worked together, developed, and presented innovative digital solutions that highlight the power of youth-led innovation in building a smarter, more capable Gauteng.

In his speech, MEC Dhlamini urged young people to keep embracing coding, innovation, and digital technologies as tools to transform communities, enhance service delivery, generate employment, and contribute to a digitally empowered province.

The G13 Hackathon continues to highlight the outstanding talent, creativity, and technical skills of Gauteng's youth while creating opportunities for future skill development.

All teams teams including the winners, will now begin an exciting new journey with NetCampus Group for further training and growth.

Congratulations to all finalists, in particular that City of Johannesburg Central who are the overall winners, and the 2026 G13 Hackathon Champions. Your innovation is helping shape Gauteng's future.

Earlier today, Gauteng MEC for e-Government, Bonginkosi Dhlamini, participated in and delivered remarks at the Policy Dialogue on Industrialisation Through Innovation, held at the Radisson Hotel & Convention Centre in Johannesburg.

Convened under the theme “Industrial Innovation for Growth and Competitiveness,” the dialogue brought together government representatives, industry leaders and innovators to deliberate on the role of innovation and emerging technologies in stimulating economic growth, creating sustainable employment opportunities and enhancing the quality of life for citizens.

In his address, MEC Dhlamini underscored the importance of innovation and digital transformation as key drivers in building a more inclusive, competitive and prosperous Gauteng and South Africa.

Gauteng MEC for the Gauteng Department of e-Government Mr. Bonginkosi Dhlamini
today appeared before the Gauteng Provincial Legislature Portfolio Committee on e-Government to present the Department’s 4th Quarterly Performance Report for the 2025/2026 financial year.

Joined by departmental officials, the MEC outlined the progress made by the Department in advancing digital transformation, improving service delivery, and implementing key strategic programmes aimed at building a modern, efficient and responsive government for the people of Gauteng.

The engagement formed part of the Department’s ongoing commitment to accountability, transparency and ensuring that public resources are utilised effectively to deliver on the priorities of government.
