THE TWOSOME SWIFTLY APPREHENDED FOR POSSESSION OF ILLICIT SUBSTANCES - IN THE ALRA-PARK AND DUDUZA AREAS

ALRA-PARK AND DUDUZA _ On Friday 26 July 2024 at about 06:40, the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD) Eastern Region Task Team Officers intercepted two (2) male suspects aged 18 and 40 for possession and possible dealing illicit substances, in the Nigel and Duduza areas.

The EMPD Officers continued to roll out operations to crackdown on drug syndicates throughout the City of Ekurhuleni. While on patrol, the Officers spotted a suspicious male on the corner at Extension 3. upon questioning the uneasy Mozambican national, who claimed to be waiting for a friend, Officers requested to conduct a body search on him, of which he unconfidently agreed. During the body search, Officers found seventeen (17) ziplock packets with crystal m**h, with an estimated street value of one thousand seven hundred Rands (R1700). Meanwhile in the Duduza area, Officers cornered a 18-year-old African male suspect with forty (40) brown wrapped plastic which contained street he**in (nyaope), with an estimated street value of two thousand Rands (R2000).

The handcuffed twosome were marched to Nigel and Duduza police station, the confiscated illicit substances were booked at the respective police stations. The pair are expected to appear at the Nigel Magistrate Court soon.

EMPD SCPU CONTINUES TO ROLL OUT SCHOLAR PATROL AND SCHOLAR TRANSPORT TRAINING INTERVENTION IN THE SPRINGS, DAVEYTON, KWA-THEMA AND TSAKANE AREAS

SPRINGS, DAVEYTON, KWA-THEMA AND TSAKANE _ Between the days of Monday 22 and Friday 26 July 2024,from 07:00 the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD) Social Crime Prevention Unit (SCPU) Officers continued to roll out scholar patrol and scholar transport training interventions, in the Springs, Daveyton, Kwa-Thema, and Tsakane areas.

The EMPD Officers left no stone unturned as they embarked on a road safety awareness at schools, to prevent the high number of fatalities in the City of Ekurhuleni (CoE). Officers engaged learners on their safety in traffic and what role they must play to ensure their own safety. Furthermore, Officers shared knowledge on child abduction, by advising the little ones to not speak to strangers, as Officers made use of different mechanism to capture the attention of the learners by allowing them to participate in illustrations.

Among the discussions held was that of bullying, and the negative impact it has on both the victim and the perpetrator’s future. Thereafter, scholar transport drivers were issued written notices for non-compliance on their vehicles and advice to make sure their vehicles are in a roadworthy condition before transporting school children.

The EMPD will continue to roll out interventions of this nature to remain a step ahead and to help reduce the number of road fatalities throughout the City of Ekurhuleni.

THE EMPD SOCIAL CRIME PREVENTION UNIT VISITS GOGO THOKO’S PRE-SCHOOL - IN THE THOKOZA AREA

THOKOZA _ On Friday 26 July 2024 from 09:00 to 12:00, the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD) Social Crime Prevention Unit (SCPU) Officers visited Gogo Thoko’s Pre-school, in the Thokoza area.

During the operation, children were educated on gender-based violence, dangers of talking or taking things from strangers and child trafficking. This is an initiative taken by the school’s principal, to invite the EMPD SCPU Officers to visit the school and educate their pupils on this most talked about crimes, that are happening in our country and rules regarding road safety. EMPD stands by the ethos: “Teach them when they are still young to prevent them from falling victims to such happenings.”

This is one of many school visits by the Social Crime Prevention Unit officers, to follow in the City of Ekurhuleni.

A MAN BEHIND BARS AFTER THE SESHEGO MAGISTRATE’S COURT ISSUED A WARRANT OF ARREST – IN THE TSAKANE AREA

TSAKANE _ On Wednesday 24 July 2024, the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD) Eastern Region Task Team Officers arrested a man sought by the Seshego Magistrate’s Court, in the Tsakane area.

It is alleged that, the Seshego Magistrate’s Court in Polokwane issued a warrant of arrest for a 49-year-old male suspect, for failing to appear in court after he failed to adhere to a court order issued for child maintenance, in the Polokwane area. The EMPD Eastern Region Task Team Officers swiftly attended to it, and the suspect was arrested at his home on Nkowankowa Street in Tsakane.

A 49 year old male was arrested and detained at the Tsakane police station and he will further be transferred to the Seshego Magistrate’s Court soon.

SUSPECT BEHIND BARS FOR ARMED ROBBERY - IN THE TSAKANE AREA

TSAKANE _ On Tuesday 23 July 2024, Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD) Eastern Region Task Team Officers intercepted a 29-year-old male suspect for armed robbery, in the Tsakane area.

Officers were on patrol when they received a complaint of armed robbery, that took place on Mashimini Street Extension 8 in Tsakane. Officers followed the information, and were led to Gogomo Street Extension 8 in Tsakane, where on arrival, officers found a male suspect in the house. The complainant confirmed to the officers, that the man they found in the house was the one who robbed her.

The 29-year-old male suspect was immediately arrested and detained at the Tsakane police station, facing charges of armed robbery and he will appear at Tsakane Magistrate’s Court soon

A REPORTED STOLEN BRONZE TOYOTA CONQUEST HAS BEEN FOUND ABANDONED - IN THE THEMBISA AREA

THEMBISA _ On Monday 24 July 2024, the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD) Bronberg Specialized Unit Officers recovered a stolen bronze Toyota Conquest on Phumalula Street at Mqanza section in the Thembisa area.

As the Officers were on patrol, they received information from a reliable source about a motor vehicle that was reported stolen, in Thembisa. Following the information, the Officers were led to Phumalula Street where, upon arrival, officers noticed a vehicle with the same description of the one in the look-out, abandoned on the road.

All the relevant stakeholders were summoned to the scene. Although no arrest has been made yet, a case of stolen motor vehicle has been registered at the Rabasotho police station. The bronze Toyota Conquest was taken to Aeroton police station for further investigations.

TWO SUSPECTS ARRESTED FOR HIGHJACKING A MOTOR VEHICLE – IN THE ALBERTON AREA

ALBERTON _ On Friday 26 July 2024 at 09:40, the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD) Community Liaison Unit (CLU) Officers, in conjunction with the South African Police Services (SAPS) Dog Unit and Alberton Reaction Unit, Fox and CPS Security Company, arrested two (2) suspects for hijacking a motor vehicle at the corner of Vlei and Paul Sehlogo Street, in the Alberton area.

Members received information from a crime fighting reaction group, that is working in conjunction with a vehicle tracking company, of a white Isuzu light delivery vehicle (LDV) that was reported hijacked and kidnapped the driver at 09:30, on the Geldenhuys interchange on the N3 split, by two suspects who were driving a silver-grey Toyota sedan. They immediately acted on the information, and working together with the vehicle tracking company, the suspects were cornered at Vlei and Paul Sehlogo Street in Alberton. The two South African male suspects, aged 44 and 45, whom one was driving the white hijacked motor vehicle, and the other one was driving the silver-grey Toyota sedan, were both arrested and taken to Alberton Police station where they were charged with Hijacking and kidnapping.

This has become a trend in Alberton where they highjack courier light delivery vehicles (LDV’s) between 09:00 to 14:00. The two suspects will appear at Palmridge Magistrate’s Court soon, and the vehicle was taken to Aeroton Police yard for safe keeping.

THREE LAWBREAKERS NABBED WHILE R10K WORTH OF NARCOTICS CONFISCATED - IN THE TSAKANE AREA

TSAKANE _ On Wednesday 24 July 2024 at 05:00, the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD) Eastern Region Task Team Officers intercepted three (3) male suspects between the ages of 25 and 40 for possession and possible dealing in illicit substances, in the Tsakane area.

EMPD Officers continued with their quest to bring down drug syndicates, in aid to have a drug-free City of Ekurhuleni (CoE). The Officers carried out a sting operation in the early hours of the morning, armed with information from a reliable source on the whereabouts of these drug dealers in the area. Officers cornered a 25-year-old Mozambican national on Rolihlahla Street Extension 8 with twenty (20) ziplock packets of Crystal M**h and twenty (20) star Mandrax tablets all with the estimated street value of three-thousand-rand (R3000) and five hundred and forty rands (R540) in cash. Meanwhile at the same address, Officers intercepted a 40-year-old African male with one hundred (100) brown wrapped plastic, which contained substance suspected to be drugs, with the estimated street value of five-thousand-rand (R5000) and six hundred and sixty rand (R660) in cash. Furthermore, on Rolihlahla Street Extension 8, Officers apprehended a 33-year-old African male suspect with forty (40) brown wrapped plastic, which contained substance suspected to be drugs, with the estimated street value of two thousand rands (R2000). The R10K worth of narcotics and cash were booked at the Tsakane police station.

The th*****me facing charges of possession and possible dealing in illicit substance are expected to appear in the Tsakane Magistrate Court soon.

The net is closing in on all drug syndicates who are busy selling illicit substance that destroys our communities, they will be held accountable and will face the full might of the Law.

TWO DRUGS SYNDICATES NABBED WHILE NARCOTICS SEIZED IN THE TSAKANE AREA

TSAKANE _ On Monday 22 July 2024 between 12:00 and 13:00, the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD) Drug Enforcement Unit (DEU) Officers crackdown two (2) African male suspects aged 39 and 42 for possession and possible dealing in illicit substances, in the Tsakane area.

EMPD Officers received information from concerned community members about the suspicious pair selling illicit substances to members of the community. Officers immediately acted on the information received and proceeded to the identified spot on the corner of Malandela and Ndabezitha Street. At the first stop, the Officers cornered the 42-year-old suspect with seven (7) brownish tablets suspected to be drugs, with an estimated street value of five hundred and fifty rands (R550) and thirty rands (R30) in cash. Thereafter, on Ntsako Street Extension 6, Officers intercepted a 39-year-old suspect with eleven (11) ziplock packets with Crystal M**h, with an estimated street value of five hundred and fifty Rands (R550) and sixty Rand (R60) in cash. The handcuffed twosome was marched to Tsakane police station while the confiscated illicit substance was booked at the same police station.

The pair facing charges of possession and possible dealing in illicit substance are expected to appear in the Tsakane Magistrate Court soon.

TWO SUSPECTS ARRESTED FOR ATTEMPTED ROBBERY - IN THE EDEN PARK AREA

EDEN PARK _ On the 22nd of July 2024 between 15:00 and 16:00pm, the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD) Community Liaison Unit (CLU) members arrested two male suspects both aged 24, for attempted robbery in phase 5, in Eden Park area.

Officers received information from the members of the South African Police Service (SAPS) of two suspects who attempted to rob a person on Wyk Kwaardt Street on Sunday at 21:00 in Eden Park. While the suspect tried to rob the victim by pointing a firearm, the victim saw their faces and recognised them. When they saw that the victim knew them, they decided to leave him and ran away. The victim went to open a case of attempted robbery at Eden Park police station. Upon receiving the information, the Officers immediately followed up and were led to Phase 5 in Eden Park, where they arrested two (2) male South African suspects at the ages of 24.

The two suspects were arrested and taken to Eden Park SAPS, where they were charged with attempted robbery, and they will appear at the Palm Ridge Magistrate’s Court soon. The firearm that was used to commit the crime was not found and investigations are still underway.

TRAGIC CAR CRASH CLAIMS ONE LIFE ON THE N12 WHILE ONE APPREHENDED IN THE BENONI AREA

BENONI _ On Saturday 20 July 2024 at 21:38, the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD) Overloads Unit Officers responded to a fatal car crash, on the N12 direction West before Tom Jones Road off ramp, in the Benoni area.

While enroute to start their shift, the EMPD Officers came across a tragic accident that claimed the life of one African male in his early thirty's. Officers noticed the heavy traffic flow and flashing red lights of emergency services vehicles on the side of the freeway, and they immediately pulled over to assist. Upon investigation, the Officers discovered that three vehicles were involved in the crash. It is alleged by an eyewitness, that the two white Toyota sedans were stationary on the side of the roadway, attending to a tyre issue. The vehicle in front was empty, while the other had two occupants inside, when a silver Nissan pickup bakkie collided into the stationary vehicles. One male victim was declared dead on the scene, while the other sustained serious injuries and was transported to Alberton Netcare Hospital, and the driver of the Nissan was free from injury.

Upon questioning the driver of the bakkie, Officers could smell a strong odour of alcohol and requested to do a breath test, which came back positive and over the legal limit. The 36-year-old white male suspect was immediately handcuffed and taken to Far East Rand Hospital to draw a blood sample by a Registered Nurse. The remains were taken to Springs Mortuary while family members arranged towing for the vehicles to be removed.

The suspect facing charges of culpable homicide and driving under the influence of intoxicating substance, was marched to Benoni police station and is expected to appear in the Benoni Magistrates Court soon.

A FRAUDULENT CASE REGISTERED AND TWO SUSPECTS NABBED - IN THE SOWETO AREA

SOWETO _ On Friday 19 July 2024, Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD) The Cable Theft Task Team followed up information that led to the team coming across a suspicious 33-year-old African male on the street of Dobsonville Mall, in the Soweto area.

The suspect was approached, and upon searching, officers seized face-value documents. An interrogation was conducted and the suspect voluntarily confessed that he was working for his boss by selling license discs, and later agreed to take the officers to his boss in Braamfishervile.

On arrival, the officers found a 39-year-old male suspect upon searching they seized also face-value documents, a laptop and a printer, that were placed on a table.

The two male suspects were arrested, and detained in Dobsonville police station, facing charges of possession of fraudulent documents and fraud, and will appear in Soweto magistrate court soon. The fraudulent document was booked in at the SAP13.
