We are today hosting the National Department of Health (South Africa)'s training on Female Condoms. The session aims to produce Trainers that will in turn train other colleagues in their respective facilities and sub districts across the province on Condom Use and safe ways to use condoms.

Condoms remain the most encouraged mode of protection against HIV, Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs) and unwanted pregnancies.

The recent Maquassi-Hills Sub District Planning Lekgotla focused on our vision of promoting a healthy, self reliant community.

Other aspects included mitigating the concern of security in our facilities, highlighting on how the communities we serve could contribute in protecting our health officials - ensuring quality health services provision for all.

This week, our Matlosana Sub District had their planning lekgotla led by Ms Vincentia Tsolela.

This involved looking back at the previous financial year's priorities and looking forward to new ones, plus ways on how to improve the health services provision for the people of Matlosana.

This assists us to have a tailored plan and interventions to a specific area and not apply a blanket approach across the District.

Klerksdorp-Tshepong Hospital has successfully performed a mitral valve replacement on 36-year-old Mosimanegape Jacobs from Vryburg.

The five-hour operation was carried out at Tshepong Hospital on 11 June 2026 by a multidisciplinary team led by Dr Taunyane.

A mitral valve replacement is performed when a damaged heart valve affects normal blood flow, often causing fatigue, shortness of breath and swelling.

Mr. Jacobs is recovering in the Intensive Care Unit and is expected to be discharged soon.

Hospital management described the procedure as another important milestone for specialised cardiac care in the North West.
