Architectural Forum of Knysna and Plettenberg Bay

Architectural Forum of Knysna and Plettenberg Bay The forum was established in 2009 to meet the need to discuss current subjects of concern relating to the architecture and urban design happening in our areas.

The Architectural Forum of Knysna and Plettenberg Bay (AFKP) is a representative group mostly of local architects, technologists or anyone interested or affiliated with the development of our urban edge and rural surrounds. We meet over coffee for an hour every month to discuss amongst a range of others, new and future legislation and of course the promotion of professional development. We have be

en recognised by the Knysna Municipality’s town planning department through our role as advisors and have subsequently been appointed to serve on the aesthetics committee on a rotational basis. The forum is a valuable resource of knowledge to assist the Municipal committee in making important decisions regarding heritage, aesthetics and urban design. As we all know, the arts is not an exact science and critical analysis is essential in adjudication. We therefore see our role as consultants as essential and could become more valuable with our voices becoming known. We therefore invite other institutes, associations; members of our allied professions and anyone who wishes to address us or has an interest in the built environment to join this stimulating environment, something which can be lacking in smaller urban centers such as ours.
