Today, we joined the Nkonyane family, friends, colleagues and the broader community at the memorial service of Mrs. Cecilia Nkonyane, the beloved wife of Mr. Nathi Nkonyane, CEO of the Mpumalanga Green Cluster Agency. On behalf of the department, we delivered a eulogy in honour of her life, reflecting on her values, kindness and the positive impact she made on those who knew her.

We extend our deepest and heartfelt condolences to Mr. Nkonyane, the Nkonyane family and all those affected by this great loss. May they find strength, comfort and solace during this difficult period, and may the soul of Mrs. Cecilia Nkonyane rest in eternal peace.

Today we joined the MEC for COGHSTA, DCSSL, the Executive Mayors of Thaba Chweu Municipality and Ehlanzeni District Municipality, as well as the Chairperson of the Mpumalanga House of Traditional Leaders, to strengthen collaboration in addressing the growing challenge of illegal mining in Pilgrim’s Rest.

The meeting focused on developing a coordinated and integrated response to combat this scourge, which continues to pose a serious threat to the tourism and agricultural sectors, while undermining the safety, livelihoods and wellbeing of surrounding communities.

Today, on behalf of the Honorable Premier Mr Mandla Ndlovu MP, we joined the National Youth Development Agency (NYDA) during the launch of the Phanda Thursday initiative alongside the Minister of Small Business Development, Hon. Stella Ndabeni-Abrahams, and the Minister of Women, Youth and Persons with Disabilities, Hon. Sindisiwe Chikunga at Mbalenhle Sasol Club in Secunda. The initiative marks a significant milestone in advancing government’s commitment towards youth economic empowerment and inclusive development.

We commend the leadership of the NYDA under the stewardship of Executive Chairperson Dr. Myende for championing this visionary intervention aimed at repositioning young people towards sustainable opportunities in business, entrepreneurship, innovation and broader economic participation. Programmes of this nature remain critical in unlocking the potential of young people as active drivers of economic growth and social transformation.
