Umzimvubu Local Municipality is proud to be part of the 2026 Africa’s Travel Indaba currently taking place in Durban, which commenced on the 11th of May and concludes today, the 14th of May.

The Municipality remains committed to advancing tourism development and positioning Umzimvubu as a destination of choice rich in culture, heritage, nature and investment opportunities. Part of the delegation is the Mayor together with Executive Committee members and members of the for the Local Economic Development (LED), standing committee, officials from the LED, engaging with tourism stakeholders and showcasing the unique offerings of our area. Also in attendance, is representatives from 2nd World Guest House and Intsizwa Guest House who are Tourism and Hospitality product owners.

Umzimvubu Local Municipality encourages local and international tourists to “take a shot left” and discover the beauty, warmth and untapped tourism potential of Umzimvubu.

ANNUAL RISK ASSESSMENT WORKSHOP

Currently underway at the Municipal Conference Centre in KwaBhaca, is the Annual Risk Assessment Workshop for Umzimvubu Local Municipality, attended by the Municipal Management Team, National Treasury, the Chairperson of the Municipal Public Accounts Committee (MPAC) and members of the Audit Committee.

The workshop was officially opened by Cllr Ntombizandlie Garane, Portfolio Head responsible for Infrastructure and Planning, on behalf of the Mayor.

The Session forms part of the Municipality’s preparations for the 2026/2027 Financial Year, aimed at strengthening good governance, improving risk management processes, and ensuring institutional readiness ahead of the new financial cycle commencing on 1 July 2026.

UMZIMVUBU LOCAL MUNICIPALITY ADVANCES ROAD INFRASTRUCTURE UPGRADES IN KWABHACA TOWN

The Umzimvubu Local Municipality continues to intensify its infrastructure development programme through the implementation of key road rehabilitation projects aimed at revitalising KwaBhaca and improving the overall condition of local roads.

Currently, the municipality is undertaking road works at the bypass behind Shoprite as well as the restoration of the street within the old Standard Bank vicinity. These developments form part of the municipality’s broader agenda to invest in durable and sustainable infrastructure that improves mobility, enhances safety and restores the appearance of the town.

The projects are expected to improve traffic flow, strengthen accessibility for both motorists and pedestrians, and contribute towards creating a more functional and attractive urban environment. “The municipality views infrastructure development as a critical driver for local economic growth, improved service delivery and community development”, said the Mayor, Cllr Zukiswa Ndevu.
