Good Morning South Africa,

Every year on 18 July South Africans together with the global community honour our late former president and international icon Nelson Mandela in the celebration of Nelson Mandela International Day.

The day was officially adopted by the United Nations in November 2009 as an annual international day. The UN noted that marking the day recognises Mandela's "values and his dedication to the service of humanity" and acknowledging his contribution "to the struggle for democracy internationally and the promotion of a culture of peace throughout the world".

The overarching objective of Nelson Mandela International Day is to inspire individuals to take action to help change the world for the better, and in doing so build a global movement for good.

The idea is to do something that will benefit those around us on Nelson Mandela International Day as it was inspired by Mandela himself. He said: "It is time for new hands to lift the burdens. It is in your hands now."

Premier Chupu Mathabatha on behalf of the people of Limpopo and himself sends his heartfelt condolences on the passing on of legendary musician Ray Chikapa Phiri.

" Ray Phiri was not only my favourite musician who we invited every other time we had events in the Province,but he was also a comrade we met at UDF and MDM structures during the 1980s. That's why his music had a certain appeal to us." He was also married to one of our daughters in the past few years" This is heartbreaking", Mathabatha said.

A world musician of note,Ray Phiri is said to have succumbed to cancer.

May his soul rest in peace.

It is with sadness that the Premier and the Province have learnt with sadness the passing on of Ryan Shearer,the General Manager of The Ranch Hotel earlier this week. Ryan was the face of the Ranch,always smiling,always ready to help. Everytime we had an event at the Ranch,he would be the welcoming face,with a handshake and a question of assurance,if everything is fine. Now he is gone!
May his soul rest in peace!
