PRESS STATEMENT: City of Tshwane Notes Continued Progress in Financial Recovery

"The results show that Tshwane’s financial recovery is gaining traction and that the meticulous work and efforts invested to stabilize the City’s finances are showing positive and measurable
results.

The Financial Recovery Plan is yielding comforting results. Tshwane is gradually migrating
into financial stability, and this is strengthening reliable and equitable service delivery."

We sat again today as the Municipal Appeals Tribunal (MAT) to consider further matters on our roll, I chaired, supported by the MMC for Housing and Human Settlements, Ald. Aaron Maluleka, and the MMC for Economic Development and Spatial Planning, Cllr Sarah Mabotsa.

Every appeal is heard on its merits, every report tested, every ruling made to stand on the record.

The roll sets our pace. Residents deserve decisions on their homes, businesses and developments that are final, defensible and in compliance with the City’s by-laws.

Council today conferred the title of Alderman on 28 councillors, myself among them, for outstanding service to Council.

I accept it with gratitude and with a clear sense of what it recognises.

Service in this city is never the work of one person.
It belongs to the residents who kept raising their hands until we listened. To the officials who do the unglamorous work of making a city function. To the councillors who hold the line on the difficult decisions.

Congratulations to my fellow Aldermen conferred today, my sincere appreciation to the Chief Whip of Council, Ald. Molatelo Mashola, and to Council for the honour.

I am truly grateful 🙏💚
