Sunflower Community Preschool Sunflower Community Preschool follows the Waldorf guidelines for Early Childhood Education, where the aim is to create a warm, nurturing environment.

WHO WE ARE The Sunflower Community Pre-school was started as a private Waldorf-based initiative in Scarborough in January 2000. In March 2004 it became a registered Non-Profit Organisation, managed by a voluntary committee of parents and teachers. WHERE WE AREt present the school operates from the Scarborough Community Centre.WHAT WE OFFER Our school is open to children aged 18 months till 5 years

from Scarborough and the surrounding areas. We employ a qualified teacher and an assistant as numbers dictate. School hours are Monday to Friday 08h30 to 12h00. Our programme follows the Waldorf guidelines for Early Childhood Education. Our aim is to create a warm, nurturing environment which facilitates healthy development of body, mind and spirit. The rhythm of each morning provides a balance between free play and teacher-guided group times. Simple, natural toys and equipment are provided, to encourage imagination and learning through play. The curriculum includes artistic activities, singing and movement, domestic activities such as baking and gardening, story- telling and puppet plays. Emphasis is laid on cultivating reverence and care for the natural environment. Following the rhythm of the year, each term ends with a seasonal festival.
