🌍 International Women’s Day – A Message of Solidarity from SAVWA

Today, and every day, South Africa Volunteer Work Camp Association (SAVWA) stands in solidarity with women and girls in South Africa and across the world in the continued pursuit of equality, dignity, and human rights.

International Women’s Day is a moment to reflect on the progress made through the tireless efforts of women, communities, and movements that have fought for recognition, protection, and the advancement of women’s rights. It is also a reminder that many challenges remain in achieving true gender equality.

At SAVWA, we believe that empowering women and girls is essential to building inclusive, resilient, and thriving communities. Through volunteerism, youth empowerment, education, entrepreneurship support, and community development initiatives, we strive to create spaces where women can lead, grow, and shape the future.

Our volunteers, partners, and community members contribute daily to advancing gender equality whether through mentorship, skills development, leadership programs, or community engagement initiatives. These actions contribute to the global effort to achieve the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, particularly Goal 5: Gender Equality.

While the journey toward equality continues, we remain confident that citizen engagement, volunteerism, and international solidarity can drive meaningful change.

🤝 Together, let us continue to stand for equality, amplify women’s voices, and build a future where every woman and girl can thrive.

Leading Youth, Transforming Communities: SAVWA & NYS

In Soshanguve and Mabopane, the South Africa Volunteer Work Camp Association (SAVWA), in partnership with Seriti Institute, is empowering young people through the National Youth Service (NYS) Programme. Youth gain leadership, entrepreneurship, and financial literacy skills while actively serving their communities.

Over the past two years, more than 200 young people have participated in leadership training, supported Early Childhood Development (ECD) centres as volunteers and caregivers, and started small income-generating initiatives. Community gardens have also been established, promoting food security and sustainable practices.

Through collaboration with schools, ECD centres, community leaders, and parents, SAVWA ensures youth-led projects respond to real community needs. The impact is clear—confident young leaders, stronger communities, and new opportunities, including international volunteer exchanges in Germany and France.

A message from SAVWA:
“We thank NYDA for the opportunity to showcase the impactful work being done by SAVWA and our dedicated NYS youth in Soshanguve and Mabopane.”

South Africa Volunteer Work Camp Association (SAVWA) is proud to be participating in Meetings Africa 2026 at the Sandton Convention Centre from 23–25 February 2026.

In 2026, Meetings Africa celebrates its 20th Anniversary a remarkable milestone in shaping Africa’s business events landscape. Owned by South African Tourism, this flagship trade show has, for two decades, been the premier market access platform for African business events products, connecting the continent to the world.

At SAVWA, we believe in partnership and collaboration we do not work in isolation. Participating in Meetings Africa strengthens the growth and expansion of our volunteer development programmes, which play a vital role in driving economic impact while showcasing Africa’s innovation, diversity, and spirit of cooperation.

This is not just another talk show...it is a continental platform that brings together organisations, business leaders, policymakers, academics, development agencies, and grassroots movements to shape inclusive economic systems that put people before profit.

We are building something bigger than an event we are building a movement-driven gathering that strengthens partnerships as vehicles for economic justice, shared prosperity, and sustainable development.

Message of Solidarity with Communities Affected by Floods in Southern Africa

Southern Africa Workcamps Cooperation (SAWC) extends its deepest solidarity and heartfelt condolences to all communities affected by the devastating floods in Limpopo & Mpumalanga (South Africa), Mozambique, and Zimbabwe.

We are deeply saddened by the tragic loss of life, with more than 30 people confirmed dead in South Africa, at least 70 lives lost in Zimbabwe, and 13 deaths reported in Mozambique, with fears that the true toll may be even higher. Behind these numbers are families, children, and entire communities whose lives have been suddenly and painfully disrupted.

Our thoughts are especially with the people of Mozambique, where more than 300,000 people have been displaced in Gaza Province alone, and over half a million people nationwide have been affected. The forced evacuations, destruction of homes, loss of livelihoods, and ongoing risk of further flooding place already vulnerable communities in an extremely precarious situation.

These floods are not just a natural disaster; they are a reminder of the growing reality of the climate crisis, which continues to disproportionately affect communities in the Global South. Once again, we see how climate change deepens inequality, poverty, and human suffering.

SAWC stands in solidarity with all affected communities, emergency responders, civil society organizations, and governments working tirelessly to save lives and provide humanitarian assistance. We call for regional and international solidarity, increased humanitarian support, and long-term investment in climate resilience, disaster preparedness, and community-based adaptation strategies.

In this moment of grief and uncertainty, we reaffirm our commitment to climate justice, human dignity, and collective action. No community should face such devastation alone.

Our hearts are with you. We stand with you. We will continue to advocate for a safer, more just, and more resilient future for all.
