Soweto residents are tired and they have every right to be. Broken promises, poor service delivery and a lack of job opportunities have gone on for far too long, and the people of Meadowlands are ready for something different.

Ward 43 candidate Nkosana Mhlakaza has been walking the streets of Zones 7, 8 and 9, sitting with residents and listening to exactly what they need from a local government that actually works. What residents are asking for is not complicated: a corruption-free City that delivers uninterrupted services and keeps their communities clean. That is it. Thulani Mabaso, the DA's Joburg ward candidate for ward 41, was out and about engaging with frustrated Meadowlands residents and business owners.

He shared the DA's plans for the City of Johannesburg and the record of clean governance where the DA governs. 💙🇿🇦

Meadowlands is uniting behind the DA and the energy on the ground is real. Ward 40 candidate Zandi Madonsela, Ward 41 candidate Thulani Mabaso and Ward 43 candidate Nkosana Mhlakaza came together recently at an information table, meeting residents face to face, helping them report major service delivery issues and addressing the social challenges that have been weighing on this community for far too long.

These are not people who showed up when the election got close. They have been here, on the ground, doing the work, and residents in Meadowlands are standing behind them because they have seen it with their own eyes. Real change is coming to Soweto and it starts on the 4th of November 🗳️💙

Ward 47 has been living without electricity for over a year because of a burnt transformer that the City of Johannesburg has done nothing to replace, and the impact on this community has been devastating. Robberies have increased in the darkness, sick residents have gotten worse without power for their medical needs, families have lost food they cannot afford to replace, and most heartbreakingly, a community member lost his leg after a burn incident that happened in the darkness this situation created.

This is a human rights crisis that should never have been allowed to go on this long, and it took Gogo Helen Zille to step in, raise funds for a new transformer and give this community something they had almost lost: hope.

We were on the ground in Ward 47 today and the gratitude from residents was overwhelming. This is what real leadership looks like 💙

The bad water leak on Van Onselen Road in Meadowlands has finally been fixed after DA activists and PR councillors kept doing oversight visits and following up with Johannesburg Water until the job was done, and the community can breathe a little easier knowing that one is sorted 💙

Unfortunately the City has left behind a dangerous reinstatement hole at the site, and our activists are already on it to make sure it gets seen to before someone gets hurt. We are not done until every part of this is properly finished.

Delayed refuse removal and zero enforcement of anti-dumping by-laws has left Zone 5 in Meadowlands drowning in illegal dumping, and it has gotten so bad that a hole left open by City Power to install high-mast lighting has been filled with household rubbish and construction rubble by people who know nobody is watching and nobody will come to clean it up.

This is what the ANC-EFF-PA coalition's mismanagement looks like on the ground in our community, no plan, no enforcement and no accountability while residents live with the consequences every single day.
