Thankful Thursday🦜❤️

A short while ago, just before our Cape winter really set its teeth, Southern Parrot Sanctuary was blessed with the assistance of an incredible man, Tyrone Blommestijn, of Duroplastic.
We were in the process, little by little, of building a new aviary for our Ecclectus parrots, but had hit a snag with running short on funds for roofing.
We had phoned a few companies to obtain quotes for roof sheeting, and had ended up speaking to a sales person at Duroplastic, who suggested we chat to Tyrone.
Fast forward to a few weeks later - Tyrone had come out to SPS to take some measurements, and before long he was there one sunny Sunday morning with a load of roof sheets and tools!
Without a backward glance, Tyrone put shoulder to wheel...
We have the most beautiful roof on our Ekkie aviary, thanks to Tyrone! It didn't stop there - when he overheard us speaking about how waterlogged the ground got there in winter, several lengths of drainage pipes were added to the roofing delivery... for the first time in many years, the Lapa Triangle where the aviary is built, is no longer waterlogged. Thank you Tyrone, and Duro - we at SPS deeply appreciate your support and kindness - we will never look at our aviary roofing without thinking of you and saying a little silent prayer of thanks!

We are SO excited to announce that SPS will have a table at the Edgemead Craft & Second Hand Market this Sunday, 16th August!
We will be selling second hand goodies, brick-a-brac, parrot toys and perches.
Funds will be going to rescue parrots in need and our new aviaries that we are fundraising towards!

We are starting August with happy parrots and a new aviary! We are so thankful for the donations that made this possible❤️

We at SPS believe that birds don't belong in cages, and while this small aviary is a step in the right direction, we hope in the coming months we are able to build far larger aviaries for all the rescued and surrendered parrots in our care 🥰

Last weekend we had our Mandela Day Initiative, 67 minutes of gardening and toy making, though everyone ended up helping for longer! 😆

We are incredibly grateful to our volunteers and Mandela Day supporters who gave up their Saturday to improve our garden considerably, and help us stock up on our parrot toys. And a very special thank you to those who donated funds towards a new aviary build. We couldn't do it without you! ❤️❤️
