Gardening teaches us that nothing blooms year-round. Some seasons bring heavy storms, scorched soil, and pests, making you wonder if the seeds you planted will ever break through—or if you're just a "hope-fool" for believing they will.
In South Africa, there is roughly 1 non-profit for every 218 people. That is an incredible amount of heart, but it also means thousands of isolated causes trying to fix problems that unified communities should be solving together. We keep planting in separate pots when we really need a shared garden.
Why staying a "hope-fool" is worth it:
Growth happens in the dark: Just because you can't see the sprout doesn't mean the seed is dead.
Density creates protection: A solitary stem snaps in a storm, but a tangled, interconnected garden shelters itself.
Hope is a practice, not a feeling: It’s putting your hands in the dirt every day, trusting that small actions compound into real impact.
