Chililabombwe DEO Calls for Poll Staff Commitment Ahead of August 13 Elections

Chililabombwe-5th August 2026

Chililabombwe District Electoral Officer (DEO), who is also Chililabombwe Municipal Council Town Clerk, Mrs. Shilla Songolo, has called on poll staff to demonstrate dedication, commitment, and professionalism during the forthcoming elections scheduled for 13th August 2026.

Speaking at the official opening of a three-day training workshop for poll staff at St. Pius Catholic Church in Chililabombwe, Mrs. Songolo emphasized the importance of adhering to the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) guidelines throughout the electoral process.

She urged all selected poll staff to fully understand and apply the legal framework governing elections in Zambia, stressing that every aspect of the electoral process must be conducted in accordance with the country's laws.

Mrs. Songolo further encouraged participants to remain diligent, disciplined, and sober during both the training and election period.

Chililabombwe Council Distributes 7,488 Free Condoms During Local Government Week Activities

Chililabombwe-5th August 2026

Chililabombwe Municipal Council has distributed a total of 7,488 free condoms during its Local Government Week outreach activity held today at Lubengele Market in Chililabombwe District.

The distribution formed part of the Council's Local Government Week commemorations, which are being observed from 1st–10th August 2026.

The commemorations are aimed at showcasing the wide range of services the Council provides to members of the public while promoting community engagement and access to essential services.

Through its Socio-Economic Planning Section, the Council provides HIV prevention and awareness activities within the district under the District AIDS Coordinating Advisor (DACA) programme.

The free condom distribution was one of the key public health initiatives featured during the event.

In addition to HIV prevention services, the Council made available several other services and information materials, including Constituency Development Fund (CDF) application forms and guidelines, building permit application forms, marriage certificate application forms, application forms for the Chililabombwe Youth Vocational Training Centre, food handler's licence application forms, and waste bins display.

The local authority has encouraged members of the public to visit the Council's exhibition stands, which will be set up at various locations throughout the commemorative period.

The outreach programme continues tomorrow in Kawama, followed by activities on Friday and Monday, 10th August 2026, in Second Class and at Kabuswe Park in the Central Business District, respectively.

Residents who are unable to attend the outreach activities are reminded that Council services remain available at the Civic Centre throughout and beyond the Local Government Week commemorations.
