Choma - 18th August, 2026

The Southern Province Provincial Election Support Centre (PESC) has closed following the announcement of the Presidential Election results, bringing to an end its work in supporting the electoral process across the province.

The PESC was responsible for providing logistical and communication support to key electoral areas, helping to ensure that information and support reached the districts throughout polling.

All districts in Southern Province contributed communication officers to the Centre. The officers remained in contact with field correspondents in their respective districts, sharing updates and helping keep the Centre informed of developments on the ground.

The communication and coordination continued throughout the election period, with teams working together to ensure that information from across the province was received and communicated in a timely manner.

With the Presidential results now announced, the closure of the PESC marks the completion of the provinceโ€™s election support operations.

It was a busy few days, but the team pulled together and the work was successfully carried out from polling day through to the final stages of the results process.

Following the delimitation exercise, Choma South was created as a new constituency. The area was previously part of Choma Central. Of the 16 wards that made up Choma Central, 7 now fall under Choma South, leaving Choma Central with 9.

Hon. Trevor Mwiinde was declared Member of Parliament for Choma South after going unopposed.

This means residents of Choma South will now have direct representation in Parliament to address development and service delivery issues in the area.

Hon. Mwiinde joins Hon. Munsanje of Mbabala and Hon. Mweetwa of Choma Central for Choma Districtโ€™s representation in Parliament.
