Kalabo Town Council through the Department of Health Services today held a stakeholders engagement Meeting to raise awareness on Round 2 of the Polio Vaccination exercise that will start on 2nd June, 2026 to 5th June, 2026 .
This is in response to the isolation of a circulating vaccine-derived polio virus type 2 (cVDPV2) in an environmental sample in Lusaka District in February, 2026.
Acting District Health Director Mr. Maabo Nyanga said Polio is a dangerous and contagious disease that can cause life long paralysis of limbs ( Arms and legs) and death.
Mr. Nyanga further said that the District Health Office has targeted to vaccinate 24, 765 Children under five (5) years old in the District.
He said the Vaccination teams will move door to door vaccinating all under five years children. The vaccination exercise will also take place in Schools, Churches, Markets and other public places around the District.
Kalabo District Commissioner, Musangu Njamba has called for concerted efforts in the district in response to the Polio Outbreak.
The Department of Health Services wishes to encourage all Parents to take interest and ensure that their Children are vaccinated. Further, the general public is encouraged to report any suspected cases of polio to the nearest Health post in your residential area.
