ADD PRESIDENT ENG. CHARLES LUBASI MILUPI IS ALIVE AND WELL, SAYS MULELE

The Alliance for Development and Democracy (ADD) would like to strongly dismiss social media assertions that the party's leader, Eng. Charles Lubasi Milupi has passed away after a short illness.

The fake statement posted on one of the pages, which we can not name in order not to accord this platform credibility, read as follows: *We are deeply saddened to share the passing of our Minister of Infrastructure and Housing, the Honourable Charles Milupi, after a short illness. Our deepest condolences go out to his family, upnd and loved ones during this incredibly difficult time.*
๐Ÿฅฒ๐Ÿ˜ญ๐Ÿฅฒ

We, as the ADD, would like to categorically state from the onset that contrary to these claims, Eng. Charles Lubasi Milupi, who is also the Minister of Infrastructure, Housing and Urban Development in the New Dawn administration, is well and alive.

Therefore, these social media statements claiming otherwise should be dismissed with the contempt they deserve and, at the most, must be condemned by right-thinking members of our society who believe in the practice of sober-minded politics.

The ADD has noted the increase in the number of Cyber attacks, targeting leaders in the New Dawn administration, including the latest one where it was alleged through a fake letter that President Hakainde Hichilema had resigned from office. We are glad law enforcement agencies have already made an arrest in relation to this matter.

The swift action by law enforcement agencies to effect an arrest in the above-submitted and other Cyber-related crimes gives us confidence that even the individuals behind the fake news claim that Eng. Charles Lubasi Milupi is dead, will also soon face the law.

Over the last four or so years, the ADD has stayed true to the three principles that catapulted the UPND Alliance's electoral victory in 2021, the first-ever post-1964 political alliance to attain this feat.

These three principles are; restoring the rule of law, re-uniting Zambia, and rebuilding Zambia, and the ADD is sufficiently satisfied with how president Charles Lubasi Milupi has actualised and stayed true to these values in the last four or so years he has served in the President Hichilema-led New Dawn administration.

MINISTER MILUPI PUSHES FOR FASTER COMPLETION OF KATETE-CHANIDA ROAD PROJECT

Hon. Eng. Charles Lubasi Milupi, Minister of Infrastructure, Housing and Urban Development, has urged the Concessionaire to accelerate progress on the Katete-Chanida Road project in Eastern Province.

"This is a critical road, with about 70 percent of the full stock from the Port of Beira transported via this route. To grow the economy, we must strengthen trade with our neighbors, and that requires efficient road connectivity," said Minister Milupi.

The project, implemented under the Public Private Partnership (PPP) financing model, includes rehabilitation of the road and construction of a new border facility at Chanida to One Stop Border Post (OSBP) standards. Approximately K110 million worth of works have already been executed, with completion expected early next year.

"Quality and safety standards must remain paramount throughout the project," said RDA Board Chairman Eng. Eugene Haazele. He also appealed to local communities to safeguard road signage and installations.

ROBERT MUGABE'S SON CHARGED WITH ATTEMPTED MURDER IN SOUTH AFRICA

The youngest son of Zimbabwe's late former President Robert Mugabe has been formally charged with attempted murder at a brief appearance in a South African court.

Bellarmine Mugabe, 28, was arrested last week after a 23-year-old man was shot and injured at a property in an upmarket suburb of Johannesburg last Thursday. He was then taken into custody alongside his bodyguard - neither man has commented on the charges.

Appearing in court, dressed in black, Mugabe looked calm during the proceedings.

Bellarmine is the youngest son of Robert and his second wife Grace Mugabe. Robert Mugabe, who died in 2019, led Zimbabwe for 37 years before being forced out of power at the age of 93 in 2017.

Searching the property in Hyde Park where the shooting happened, police have found bullet cartridges but no firearm so far.

Mugabe and Tobias Tamirepi Matonhodze, 33, also face additional charges, including defeating the ends of justice, which relates to the missing firearm, prosecutors say.

The victim is in hospital and in a critical condition.

Speaking outside court, Mugabe's lawyer Sinenhlanhla Mnguni provided an update on his well-being, telling reporters his client was "fine" as he remains in custody.

Describing the circumstances of the shooting, prosecutors allege that "an altercation occurred between the victim and the accused inside Mugabe's home".

While attempting to flee the victim was then allegedly "shot in the back and collapsed outside the gate" and the gate was then closed, according to a statement from the National Prosecuting Authority.

The case against Mugabe and Matonhodze was postponed until 3 March when a bail application will be made.

FIRST CABINET FOCUS: NALUMINO MUNDIA (1927-1988)

Full Name: Nalumino Mundia
Portfolio: Minister of Commerce & Industry

Born in Kalabo in November 1927, Nalumino Mundia was a Zambian politician and freedom fighter who served as the first Minister of Commerce & Industry from 1964 and later became the 4th Prime Minister of the country from 1981-1985. He went on to serve as Zambia's Ambassador to the United States, Brazil, Peru and Venezuela.

From humble beginnings in Kalabo in Western Province in what was then Northern Rhodesia, Mundia studied at the University of Delhi in India and later in the United States of America. He began his career as a teacher in Namibia and Zimbabwe. He later joined politics and became a founding member of Kenneth Kaunda's United National Independence Party (UNIP), under which he held the position of Deputy National Treasurer. After Independence, Kaunda appointed Mundia as Zambia's first Minister of Commerce & Industry.

Mundia opposed some of Kaunda's policies and resigned from his ministerial position and the UNIP party in 1967. He went on to form his own political party, the United Party (UP). In May 1968 he held a rally in Lusaka's Matero township announcing his intention to contest in the 1968 general elections and drum up support for his party. This rally was raided by the police and Mundia was detained along with other party officials including Adamson Mushala (who led his own rebellion against the Kaunda regime), Dickson Chikulo Henry Ndhlovu and Julius Namakando.

When he was release from jail, Zambia had become a one-party state, which was declared in February 1972. This essentially abolished all other political parties and unauthorised group gatherings and made Kaunda's UNIP the sole party. Munidia was appointed Prime Minister of the country, replacing Daniel Lisulo. He served in this position from 18 February 1981 to 24 April 1985.

On 7 November 1988 Mundia collapsed at a diplomatic function and subsequently died of a heart attack. He was survived by his wife and six children. In 2025, Housing and Urban Development Minister Hon. Eng. Charles Lubasi Milupi commissioned the upgraded Mweeke Toll Station along the Mongu-Lusaka Road and renamed it after Mr. Nalumino Mundia.

30 Percent Of UPND MP May Lose Their Seats - Nkandu

Diamond TV Online reports that ruling United Party for National Development (UPND) deputy spokesperson Elvis Nkandu says most Members of Parliament will not return to the House after the August 13 general elections.

Speaking when he featured on Diamond TVโ€™s Costa talk show, Nkandu said members of Parliament needed to reflect and correct their mistakes before the August 13 general elections, as most of them risk losing their seats.

He said statistics indicated that 30% of the current sitting MPs would not return their seats.

He said President Hakainde Hichilema had warned that some of his ministers and MPs will not defend their seats.

โ€œThat should be a wakeup call for us politicians and we need take that advice seriously because in the past we have seen quite a number of ministers and even MPโ€™s failing to return to Parliament,โ€ he said.

Nkandu said it was clear that most of the MPs had performed well due to the increased Constituency Development Fund (CDF).

โ€œโ€ฆbut maybe the problem could be the approach they had taken, which is why they may be facing those challenges,โ€ he said.

He urged MPs to return to their constituencies and make peace with their constituents so that they could rectify the problem.

Nkandu said most MPs did not have good conduct and behaviour, which most people in the constituencies disliked.

โ€œOne other problem is that most MPโ€™s do not interact with their people and they exhibit bad conduct,โ€ he said.

And Nkandu said fielding a candidate not liked by the people had serious consequences, such as losing an election.

Nkandu said the victory in Kasama was good, saying the party worked hard to register a victory.

โ€œYou have to know that the president has changed the way to campaign in by-elections because in the past the entire State House used to shift to the constituency where the election was, and a lot of resources would be spent,โ€ he said.

He said only a few ministers and MPs were used to campaign in the by-election.

โ€œIf Iโ€™m not mistaken, the President has only attended two by-elections and these are Kwacha and Kabushi the rest he just delegates,โ€ he said.

Hon Musokotwane and Hon Milupi Arrive in Launda For Key Lobito Corridor Meetings

Last evening we received in Luanda Zambiaโ€™s Minister of Finance and National Planning, Hon. Situmbeko Musokotwane, and Minister of Infrastructure, Housing and Urban Development, Hon. Charles Milupi, ahead of the First Coordination Meeting of the Lobito Corridor.

The delegation includes Permanent Secretary Naomi Tetemashimba, Presidential Delivery Unit Director Kusobile Kamwambi, and other senior officials.

The meetings taking place in Luanda bring together Zambia, Angola, the Democratic Republic of Congo, the World Bank Group, the European Union, and other partners to agree on concrete next steps for the Lobito Corridor.

For Zambia, this Corridor is about practical outcomes: reducing the cost of transport, expanding exports, attracting investment, and creating jobs. My role, as always, is to ensure Zambiaโ€™s interests are clearly articulated and firmly advanced.

Work continues. Zambia is present and engaged.

04/02/2026

Saif al Islam Gaddafi, son of former Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi, has reportedly been assassinated in Libya, marking another significant moment in the countryโ€™s long and unresolved political transition. Once viewed as a possible reformist within his fatherโ€™s regime and later a controversial political figure in post-2011 Libya, his death brings renewed attention to the fragile state of governance, security, and reconciliation in the country.

More than a decade after the fall of the Gaddafi government, Libya remains divided by competing authorities, armed groups, and unresolved questions of legitimacy. The assassination highlights the enduring volatility of a nation still searching for political stability and a unified national vision. It also underscores how unresolved conflicts rarely fade quietly, they resurface in new forms, often with far-reaching consequences.

For Africa and the global community, Libyaโ€™s story is a reminder that regime change without sustainable institutions leaves a vacuum that violence and uncertainty quickly fill. Leadership transitions, justice processes, and national healing cannot be postponed indefinitely without cost. The death of Saif al Islam Gaddafi is not just about one individual, it reflects the broader challenge of rebuilding trust, order, and sovereignty in post-conflict states.

As Libya once again draws global attention, the critical question remains, how long can nations survive without closure, accountability, and a shared path forward.
