GOVT WARNS AGAINST COLLUSION IN AUCTIONS

Government has warned and cautioned against any form of collusion during the auction process, recalling concerns from previous auctions where a few individuals allegedly dominated bidding and acquired a significant number of government assets.

Speaking when RDF Auctioneers paid a courtesy call on his office, Central Province Permanent Secretary, Dr. Milner Mwanakampwe said the assets belong to the people of Central Province and, ultimately, the people of Zambia.

He noted that his office has a responsibility to ensure that the disposal process is conducted fairly, transparently and in the best interest of the public.

Dr Mwanakampwe, further urged members of the disposal committee and internal auditors to remain vigilant and ensure that any irregularities are promptly reported and addressed.

He has further emphasized the need to promote local participation, stating that residents of Central Province should be given a fair opportunity to benefit from the auction process before opportunities are extended elsewhere.

Dr. Mwanakampwe has also warned against cases where bidders inflate prices during auctions but later fail to honour their bids, describing such practices as unacceptable and detrimental to public interest.
