ECL - WHAT A COACH YOU WERE?

——————————-

And so I joined the race to become PF president. And I made my due application among my colleagues who expressed equal interest.

I thought I had gained sufficient strength for the lessons I got from ECL.

His empathy, his sympathy, his focus, his dedication, his diplomacy, his patriotism, his love for the people.

From his words to me personally, some of those words spoken and others scripted via smart phones and presidential red paper pads by those gifted fingers.

He always told me, ”the people”

I recall a day after he appointed me to his cabinet and how he encouraged me. “The people are really happy for you. Please don’t disappoint them.”

At that point, I realized that it was neither about me, nor was it about him; but that it was about the people.

These words impacted my entire space and time in his cabinet. He is my great teacher - he inspired me to love people a little more than my natural self.

Not of course to say - otherwise I could’ve been so bad.

If you learn from a good man -

ECL was good for me. Even in that innermost circle - I am sorry, I was there once or twice, he still radiated the love I enjoyed to experience.

His ability to understanding things so complex at a single presentation was really special.

His advice on intricate matters was special.

So, a disciple once said said, “I am not ashamed of the Gospel of Christ, it’s Gods power unto salvation.” If you know what I mean.

Is that the reason he kept borders open even when other countries were closing theirs? - love for people.

Is that the reason markets including streets remained open for business even when it was undesirable? Love for the have nots.

That Covid19 demon was really a devil.

Maybe that is why he planted clinics in Lunte constituency. It could as well be the reason why he upgraded schools there too.

But not only that;

He made the dream of communication possible for those have nots of my unserved and underserved people. How can we thank him?

He made things easier for them.

The aroma in reminiscence -

Oh - I just remember his micro coaching and actions as great. The thing also is that I could extrapolate to a macro level. Because I quite traversed the land of my birth.

From Imusho to Chama and from Kaputa to Sinazongwe.

It was really centre out. The story was consistently spread out.

I strongly admire ECL for his love for people - do you know; the good book say no one is perfect, not even the Archi-bishop his grace - you know who😊!

That one from the East. Not because ECL is from there, though it can be a good reason.

Did he expensively import electricity to cushion his people?
Did he subsidize fuel to cushion his people?
Did he store maize to guarantee food security for his people?
Did he collect decent mineral royalty from mines to assure forex inflows?

I thought he loved people as much as he taught love for them.

I pray that people may love you back.

“I love you Lord Jesus, because you first loved me.”

I liked and still do madam Siyuni. That good and ethical former DPP. Keep well madam, wherever you are.

I thought she was unfairly treated. I still think so.

It was just one person.

Her unfair removal affected only her and her family.

So it looked like it did not matter to many of us - hardly did most of us realize that her removal was in the grand scheme of the overall methodically conceived idea.

Well - she is now history! Her story is fading in most of our memories. Uuh!

Justice Sunday Nkonde followed.

Would this methodical scheme end with Sunday? Of course no!

Justice Joshua Banda would follow in that row methodically. And he unfairly went - then followed Justice Alfred Kopa Muma.

I remember thinking hard and long about the removal these judges. And I prayed for them all.

If these people aren’t your relatives, you’d be tempted to just ignore their removal and move on. But if you ‘mind your fathers country’, you’d consider taking time to give your thoughts.

And you know it also followed that an almost retired judge in Justice Katanekwa would also unceremoniously but methodically follow in that same way.

I am sorry to them all.

With the same sense of sorrow, I think about them.

They say that time happens.

Well, they are all gone. Some of them probably still think about their methodical removal. Some may have well moved on.

Facts have remained though.

But most importantly truth cannot be changed. Sadly for some, even the best spinners of fact and truthfully ; those who specialize in diverting peoples attention to non issues cannot change truth.

You see, even among extremely bad people, there may still exist some with a remnant of conscience. This comes to bear at the crunch time.

Then boomp! Three Constitutional Court Judges suspended from office - on their way home. To join their friends.

It is no longer the case of those affected alone. It has now become a case for each one’s fathers country.

I hear there is a stay! similar to the one keeping seven Members of Parliament in the house. We have now become a country of STAYS. And I say seven MPs because two of them were convicted.

I am not sure whether many people know that the convictions of those two colleagues by a magistrate court were based on evidence which was assessed by the high court on their election petitions and the high court found those allegations as baseless.

While the judiciary is being ransacked, the legislature is also being torn apart.

Methodical!

Acrobatical!

Do you remember Joseph Malanji? What about Bowman Lusamba?

I hope you recall how they lost their seats in the peoples assembly.

Those were just two. So in the minds of some, it didn’t matter much.

Now add Nickson Chilangwa and Ronald Chitotela. Do you know what may happen to Munir Zulu? What about Moureen Mabonga?

You may now end up with six MPs. Maybe not a big deal, it may just be six isn’t it?

Oh! No there is still the seven who are hanging on a stay. Should that methodical scheme come to bear, then you’d have thirteen.

And it could easily become fourteen - please pray for Emmanuel Jay Banda.

I know that in the Executive wing of state, it’s countless numbers which are at that once famous but now grossly infamous holding position at cabinet office.

A transit office has become so permanent for many. More permanent than the Permanent Secretary’s office in many cases.

If you add those fired and those retired in the so called national interest. And I hope it’s not sectarian, you’d be blown away. Sadly you ain’t seen nothing yet.

Any way -

Looking back and looking ahead, I see God firmly enthroned.

And I say to you my friend - all other ground is sinking sand.

DO NOT FEAR REALITY - ITS ALREADY HERE. The case of UPND and their view of things.

Once upon a time I feared that UPND and it’s leadership would have no plan to govern Zambia sensibly. My idea was based on what I considered as hollow debates that their leadership consistently depicted on various matters of national significance regarding their whats, hows and whys. This is no longer an idea any more, we are here now. We need not fear any longer - we need to find solutions as reality is upon us.

To the darkness of the majority parts of our country, we now know that neither the Chembe River Canal into Kafue River nor the Dubai model of powering a nation without rains can work even though the UPND leadership proclaimed these utopian views. These ideas were devoid of reason. There was no careful considerations granted to those views prior to committing them the public. What is our reality now - it’s darkness, it’s loss of business, its loss of jobs, it’s loss of income, it’s livelihoods; and for government it’s loss of tax revenue from lost business and lost jobs.

Should we then fear darkness? There is no point in that. We are already in the dark. What then do need to do? We need to consider drawing lessons from our reality and form our future decisions on a much more correct basis than the baseless Chembe River Canals and Dubai models as then proclaimed.

The next time someone pronounces that he or she has connections and that those connections will help end our sufferings, we should consider asking them further questions in terms of what form those connections take. Otherwise it will take three years and those connections will not avail and the situation will just become worse.

The next time someone promises to end corruption, ask them how? Otherwise the corruption fight will be weaken further by micro management and weakening of insititutional arrangements. In other words the fight against corruption might become more rhetorical than ever. All you might end up with could be hearing about unconnected issues surrounding religion, partisanship, tribal and other irrelevant factors in the fight against corruption. It won’t even be surprising anymore to observe that some government agents would claim corruption by other agents and those alleging would lose their agency to cover those accused to be corrupt.

Let me just say I listened to the president yesterday as he delivered his State Of the Nation Address on the occasion of the official opening of the fourth session of 13th National Assembly. A gentle journalist asked me to comment on what I heard, with an attempt to match her gentleness, I decline to immediately have my say and offered to comment later. I was fortunate to meet a colleague of mine afterwards who I asked for only one word for the SONA; he said it was a SCAM😊.

After reading the 34 paged speech, I am trying my best to be the kindest of them all. But sadly I see an unrestricted wide open gate to the darkest cave of our time. My internal responses to my desperate whats, hows and whys are shuttering.
