Today, 4 September 2026, the Acting High Commissioner of Botswana to Zambia, Ms. Oabona Dibeela, received a multi-sectoral Botswana delegation in Lusaka that came for a knowledge exchange mission on green and sustainable finance.

The delegation was led by the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Environment and Tourism, Ms. Abigail Khumoyame.

The mission took place as Botswana implements the second phase of the Global Environment Facility-funded project, with technical support from UNDP Botswana under the Biodiversity Finance Initiative (BIOFIN).

The objective of the mission was to learn from Zambia’s experience in advancing green and sustainable finance. Areas of focus included institutional frameworks, regulatory approaches, and market-based mechanisms that promote sustainable investment and environmental stewardship.

During their visit, the delegation engaged key Zambian institutions, namely: UNDP Zambia/BIOFIN, the Securities and Exchange Commission of Zambia, the Bank of Zambia, the Ministry of Green Economy and Environment, and members of Zambia’s Green Finance Mainstreaming Working Group.

The Botswana delegation comprised officials from the Ministry of Finance, UNDP Botswana, the KAZA Secretariat, the Non-Bank Financial Institutions Regulatory Authority (NBFIRA), and the Bank of Botswana.

Both Botswana and Zambia are members of the Kavango Zambezi Transfrontier Conservation Area (KAZA TFCA), and the mission will also explore opportunities for collaboration on sustainable financing for KAZA priorities.

𝗕𝗢𝗧𝗦𝗪𝗔𝗡𝗔 𝗔𝗡𝗗 𝗭𝗔𝗠𝗕𝗜𝗔 𝗥𝗘𝗔𝗙𝗙𝗜𝗥𝗠 𝗦𝗧𝗥𝗢𝗡𝗚 𝗕𝗜𝗟𝗔𝗧𝗘𝗥𝗔𝗟 𝗥𝗘𝗟𝗔𝗧𝗜𝗢𝗡𝗦

Yesterday, 2 September 2026, The Minister of International Relations of the Republic of Botswana, Hon. Dr. Phenyo Butale, yesterday paid a courtesy call on the Secretary to the Cabinet of the Republic of Zambia, Mr. Patrick Kangwa in Lusaka.

The meeting provided an opportunity for both countries to reaffirm the historic and cordial relations that continue to bind Botswana and Zambia. The two sides reviewed the current state of bilateral cooperation and discussed areas of mutual interest, including trade, with specific focus on the beef industry, energy, and mutual support of candidatures on regional and international platforms.

Hon. Dr. Butale solicited Zambia’s support for Botswana’s candidature to the International Telecommunication Union Radio Regulations Board for the 2027–2030 term, and underscored the importance of continued cooperation and mutual support in multilateral fora.

In his remarks, Mr. Kangwa expressed Zambia’s appreciation for Botswana’s support during Zambia’s candidature for the position of Secretary-General of the African Telecommunications Union (ATU). He noted that such support reflects the strong bonds of friendship and solidarity between the two countries.

The meeting concluded with both sides reaffirming their commitment to further strengthen Botswana-Zambia relations through the effective implementation of existing bilateral mechanisms, and by exploring new areas of cooperation for the benefit of the peoples of both countries.

The Chobe Art Ensemble was honored to participate in the 98th Agricultural and Commercial Show in Lusaka, Zambia, at the invitation of the Ministry of Tourism of Zambia and the Agricultural and Commercial Cooperative Society of Zambia Limited

The Ensemble’s participation provided a wonderful opportunity to showcase Botswana’s rich art, culture, and heritage to audiences from across the region. Through music, dance, and cultural performances, the group proudly celebrated the spirit of Botswana while strengthening cultural ties between Botswana and Zambia.
