LUPOSOSHI VEFs UNDERGO 5-DAY ECZ TRAINING AHEAD OF VOTER EDUCATION ACTIVITIES

Lupososhi Voter Education Facilitators (VEFs) are currently participating in an intensive voter education training programme organised by the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) ahead of the August 13 General Elections.

The training is in preparation for the voter education activities scheduled to commence on 1st June 2026 and is expected to play a key role in strengthening voter awareness and participation across the district.

Speaking during the opening of the training, District Electoral Officer Mr Sydney Hamooya encouraged the VEFs to uphold professionalism, integrity, and respect as they carry out their national duty of educating communities on the necessary information required for participation in voting.

He also said that, as VEFs, they are the foot soldiers of the electoral process who will be at the forefront of sensitising communities and therefore need to understand and pay particular attention to the lessons being delivered during the training.

The five-day training aims to equip VEFs with the knowledge, communication skills, and practical understanding necessary to effectively conduct voter education activities in their respective communities ahead of the General Elections.

Through the training, the district hopes to enhance public understanding of the electoral process, encourage greater citizen participation, and contribute towards peaceful, informed, and credible elections.

The district is targeting a 50 percent voter turnout and a 1 percent rejected ballot rate.

DVEC, ZANIS AND VESC PATRONS/MATRONS TRAINED AHEAD OF VOTER EDUCATION PROGRAMME

The Electoral Commission of Zambia has trained members of the District Voter Education Committees (DVEC), staff from the Zambia News and Information Service, and Patrons and Matrons of Voter Education School Clubs (VESC) ahead of the commencement of the voter education programme scheduled to start on 1st June, 2026.

The training was officiated by District Electoral Officer Sydney Hamooya, who said the exercise is important as the individuals being trained will be responsible for educating members of the community on the necessary electoral information as Zambia prepares to go to the polls on 13th August, 2026.

He also said that the voter education programme seeks to enhance public awareness, promote civic responsibility, and encourage increased participation in the electoral process.

The aim of the training is equipping participants with the knowledge and skills necessary to effectively conduct voter education activities in their respective communities and institutions.

The training brings together key stakeholders involved in voter education in order to ensure that accurate and consistent information is disseminated to the public ahead of the 2026 General Elections.
