SIYAUYA REJECTED IN IMUSHO WARD AS LOW TURNOUT CHARACTERIZED HIS RALLY

A political campaign meeting addressed by Independent parliamentary aspirant Siyauya Siyanga in Imusho Ward of Sesheke West Constituency on Tuesday afternoon, 7 July 2026, recorded a notably low turnout.

With only a few weeks remaining before the 13 August General Elections, campaigns have intensified among candidates seeking to represent Sesheke West in Parliament.

The poorly attended meeting at Imusho School grounds raised questions about Siyauya's political maturity. Those who attended reportedly expected to hear the candidate's plans and vision for the constituency but instead expressed disappointment, saying the address focused largely on personal attacks on UPND's Fredrick Misebezi rather than outlining a clear development agenda or proposals for improving the lives of residents.

He got a surprise shock of his life when the residents of Imusho openly declined to accommodate and welcome him saying they don't want independent candidates or opposition candidates, some also cited that they can't work with someone who wanted to harm President Hakainde Hichilema previously on a number of times. The planned meeting almost failed to take place due to low turnout of community members who openly disclosed that they want to vote for President Hakainde Hichilema, Fredrick Misebezi and Veronica Zambwe as their President, MP and Council Chairperson respectively including the Councillor for UPND

Twatotela Mwebena Northern na Luapula.

It was truly gratifying to engage with our candidates and members today, as we reminded one another how far we have come and the many development milestones we have achieved together.

From restructuring our debt, to enacting the free education law, and substantially increasing the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) within just four years; the heavy lifting has been done and Zambia is ready for take-off.

This was part of our message this afternoon in Kasama, Northern Province. We have called on our members to anchor their campaigns on love and to conduct themselves peacefully.

Together, we remain steadfast in our commitment to building a stronger party, ready to serve the people of Zambia with diligence.

Hakainde Hichilema,
President of the Republic of Zambia.

PRESIDENT Hakainde Hichilema says he carries a solemn duty to protect the safety of every citizen and their property now and beyond the election period.

The President said he took oath to defend and uphold the Constitution, and he will see to it that all arms and institutions of Government continue to operate effectively despite the dissolution of Cabinet and Parliament.

The head of State said security agencies have been placed on alert to safeguard peace before, during and after the elections.

The President has also directed permanent secretaries to ensure uninterrupted service delivery to citizens.

“Our citizens must continue to access all government services without disruption. People should still receive healthcare, education and other essential public services,” he said.

In a statement yesterday by State House chief communication specialist Clayson Hamasaka, the President reassured the nation that the August 13 polls will be held in a peaceful environment.

Mr Hichilema also called on political leaders to prioritise issues that matter to citizens as they campaign.

He said political competition should focus on serving the people and not character assassination.

The Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) has set this Saturday, May 23, as the official date for the start of campaigns, which will run up to August 12, a day before the elections.
