LUBOMBO CALLS FOR CALM AND UNITY AMONG UPND MEMBERS IN SIAVONGA..
A United Party for National Development (UPND) aspiring councillor for Kariba Ward, Lubombo, has called for calmness, unity, and constructive dialogue among party members and aspiring candidates in Siavonga District.
Speaking amid growing competition among aspiring candidates within the ruling party, Lubombo urged members to prioritize the unity and long-term stability of the UPND, emphasizing that internal harmony remains critical to the party’s continued growth and political strength.
He stressed that dialogue and mutual respect must guide interactions among party members, warning that internal conflicts could undermine the party’s collective efforts and weaken its political standing.
“Unity and dialogue are key components for the growth and sustainability of our party. When members fight among themselves, it puts the broader interests of the party at risk,” Lubombo said.
The aspiring councillor further cautioned that history offers many lessons about the consequences of internal divisions, noting that even powerful institutions and empires have collapsed due to internal disputes and factionalism. He therefore urged party members to place the interests of the UPND above individual ambitions.
Lubombo also reaffirmed his support for the leadership of Zambia’s Republican President, Hakainde Hichilema, stating that the president’s vision and policy direction for the country require the collective backing of party members.
According to him, defending and safeguarding the ideals and ideology of the UPND can only be achieved through unity and cooperation among its members.
“President Hichilema means well for the country, and the policies and ideology of the UPND must be protected and defended. This cannot be effectively done if we are divided among ourselves,” he said.
Lubombo further emphasized that Siavonga District needs leaders and party members who are prepared to work together in unity for the development of the area. He called on members to rally behind the leadership of President Hichilema and support the work of the UPND government.
He added that aspiring leaders within the party have a responsibility to promote internal cohesion by bridging divisions among different groups within the party.
“As aspiring leaders, we must prioritize unity among members who may belong to different camps and encourage healthy internal democratic politics that will strengthen and grow the party,” Lubombo stated.
The remarks come at a time when internal party competition is intensifying ahead of future 2026 August general elections contests, with party leaders and aspiring candidates increasingly emphasizing the need for unity to maintain the ruling party’s political momentum.
