*UPND OPENS PROVINCIAL SECRETARIAT IN SOLWEZI*

The United Party for National Development (UPND) has officially unveiled its new Provincial Secretariat in Solwezi, a development hailed as a major step in strengthening the party’s presence in North-Western Province.

Presiding over the event, Provincial Chairman Mr. Adam Sapezo reaffirmed the party’s dominance in the region, dismissing claims from some members of the Tonse Alliance that the province was no longer UPND’s stronghold. He emphasized that critics of President Hakainde Hichilema were largely former office bearers who no longer represent the aspirations of the people. Mr. Sapezo further described founding member Mr. Hunter Kangwa as “the fountain of political and moral wisdom”, underscoring his enduring influence in shaping the party’s values.

Vice Chairman Mr. Robson Namainga told the gathering that the new Secretariat would serve as a political command centre for the province. He encouraged both party members and the general public to freely visit the office, stressing that UPND is a party for everyone.

In a moving reflection, Mr. Hunter Kangwa disclosed that he, together with fellow founding father the late Mr. Senjani, spent several days at President Hakainde Hichilema’s residence to convince him to take over the party presidency following the death of UPND’s founding leader, Mr. Anderson Mazoka. His testimony highlighted the sacrifices and determination that shaped the party’s leadership transition and eventual growth.

The unveiling ceremony began with a solidarity march from Solwezi City Mall through the Central Business District, culminating at the new Secretariat located near Urban Clinic, opposite the former Legacy School. The event was attended by party officials from provincial to branch level, as well as founding members Mama Nelly and Mr. Kangwa, symbolizing unity and continuity of the party’s vision.

The Secretariat is expected to become a hub for mobilization, coordination, and community engagement, reinforcing UPND’s grassroots connection in North-Western Province.
