The Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) Kasama Youth League in Northern Province has stepped up efforts to strengthen youth football structures following a successful consultative meeting held today. The meeting was chaired by the FAZ Northern Province Youth Representative, Mr. Donald Washington Mwelwa, along side Regional Secretary Mr. Leonard Nkhata, Provincial Referees Coordinator Mr. Sampa Bwalya and Registrar Mr. Mupesa Mupeseni, brought together youth coaches, club representatives, academies, and other grassroots football stakeholders.
Speaking during the engagement, Mr. Mwelwa emphasized the importance of unified and well-regulated youth football programs across the province. He noted that the Youth League plays a critical role in identifying and nurturing future national team players, and therefore must operate with transparency, consistency, and strong developmental goals.
“We want to create a youth football environment that is not only organized but also inclusive and competitive,” Mr. Mwelwa said. “Today’s meeting is part of our broader effort to listen to stakeholders, understand their challenges, and work together to strengthen the structures that support young talent in Northern Province.”
Key issues discussed during the consultative meeting included:
1. Standardizing registration and player documentation for youth clubs.
2. Promoting fair play, child protection, and safe football environments.
3. Enhancing pathways for talented players to reach provincial and national youth teams.
4. Combating age cheating through screening by all the teams participating among others.
Stakeholders welcomed the dialogue, expressing appreciation for the renewed focus on youth development. Several representatives highlighted the need for more support, better coordination of competitions, and increased opportunities for young players to showcase their skills.
Mr. Mwelwa assured participants that the FAZ Northern Exco under the leadership of Mr. Chikonde Mbalazi, will continue conducting similar engagements to ensure every district is represented.
“Northern Province has immense talent,” Mr. Mwelwa added. “With proper organization and support, we can produce exceptional players who will go on to represent Zambia at the highest level.”
