WORKSHOP UNDERWAY AT HICC: Humanitarian Demining and Mine Victim Assistance: The Path Forward

A three-day workshop on Humanitarian Demining and Mine Victim Assistance: The Path Forward, kicked off on Monday, February 18th, at the Harare International Conference Center (HICC) and is set to conclude on Wednesday, February 20th.
The workshop, which is part of Zimbabwe's National Stakeholders Dialogue, has brought together a diverse range of stakeholders, including government officials, international organizations, civil society representatives, experts in the field, members of the media fraternity, and most importantly, survivors and victims of mine explosions.
Representatives from the European Union, Zimbabwe Mine Action Center, and the Anti-Personnel Mine Ban Convention are among the key stakeholders participating in the workshop. Other organizations that have been instrumental in supporting Zimbabwe's demining efforts and assisting victims of the remnants of war are also in attendance.
The government of Zimbabwe is represented by various ministries, including the Ministry of Defence, Ministry of Labour and Social Welfare, Ministry of Justice, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs, and the Ministry of Health and Child Care.
The Ministry of Defence has been at the forefront of demining efforts, with demining units risking their lives to make communities safe from landmines and other explosive remnants of war.
The Ministry of Labour and Social Welfare has been working tirelessly to support victims of landmines and other explosive remnants of war, ensuring they have access to healthcare, psychological support, and economic empowerment programs.
The Ministry of Justice, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs is also playing a crucial role in the workshop, providing input on legal and policy frameworks that support humanitarian demining and mine victim assistance efforts.
