MMCZ commences the second phase of young miners training

Driven by the desire to see the mining industry increase its contribution to GDP, MMCZ has been making strides in empowering youths in mining through training tagged fundamentals in small scale mining management.

MMCZ has partnered the Zimbabwe School of Mines and the Young Miners Foundation for the training of young miners drawn from various provinces. The second phase of training is a follow up on the training that began in 2021 where participants were trained in Mineral exploration, Mine extraction techniques, Mineral processing and smelting, Mining law and regulation, Environmental management and Mining safety and health. These modules were meant to empower and encourage young miners to formalize their operations and operate safely.

The modules for this second phase are; Mining finance and economics, Principles of gemmology, Mineral resource management with a focus on gemstones, The mining value chain, Project management, Lapidary practice, Attracting investment and deal structuring. The Bulawayo group was first to complete the course in fundamentals of small scale mining management and the training was held at the ZSM. The graduates were given certificates of completion.

MMCZ’s General Manager, Mr Tongai M Muzenda, stated that the Corporation intends to have completed the training sessions in all the provinces by early next year. He encouraged the youth to engage with the knowledge being imparted so that they can run their mining enterprises formally and as businesses.

MMCZ to revoke the local chrome ore sales exemption

Minerals Marketing Corporation of Zimbabwe (MMCZ), intends to cancel the exemption for chrome ore, both lumpy and concentrates on domestic sales in line with the Statutory Instrument (SI) 111 of 1983 - Minerals Marketing Corporation of Zimbabwe (Exemption) Regulation 1983 Section 6.

According to Section 3 of the aforementioned SI, the Corporation had exempted local chrome sales. However, given the difficulties that chrome miners are facing with local buyers, MMCZ intends to cancel the exemption.

MMCZ assures all stakeholders that the corporation is currently working to establish the necessary infrastructure and modalities to bring domestic sales under its purview for the benefit of all parties involved in chrome ore trade. Once finalized, all stakeholders will be notified.

Meanwhile, MMCZ informs stakeholders that the current ex-works are as given below. The price list will be updated on a regular basis.
