Strengthening Zimbabwe’s Industrial Competitiveness

Today, Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Industry and Commerce, Amb. T.T. Chifamba, received a courtesy call from the World Bank Group delegation led by Country Manager Eneida Fernandes.

Discussions focused on enhancing export competitiveness, leveraging opportunities under the AfCFTA, promoting local content and value addition, improving the business environment, and strengthening linkages between industry, agriculture, and mining.

The engagement underscores a shared commitment to fostering sustainable industrial growth, unlocking investment opportunities, and creating a more competitive economy that delivers tangible benefits for businesses and citizens alike.

VISION 2030 A REALITY

Reviving the motor industry in Zimbabwe will move towards Vision 2030. There is alot of potential for economic recovery and growth in this sector.

Yesterday the Ministry and the private sector stakeholders reviewed the Motor Industry Development Policy (2018-2030). We discussed local production of components/parts, improving local innovation, creating local jobs, funding local assemblers & manufacturers, supporting local players by BUYING LOCAL. We discussed supporting the whole value chain including downstream local entrepreneurs. AVM alone supports over 92 downstream companies that benefit from it's operations. The motor industry value chain is also a big employer. Because of the role played by the motor industry to keep the wheels of the economy turning and well lubricated, the Ministry commits to revive this sector with the target to produce local.

The Ministry of Industry & Commerce is glad to announce that the Consumer Protection Commission (CPC) successfully devolved into the provinces in line with the Devolution Agenda & also in the spirit of leaving no one & no place behind. As part of enhancing CPC's reach & effectiveness, the Minister of Industry & Commerce officially commissioned CPC Building (Headquarters) in Harare & also gave enforcement & awareness inspectors vehicles to enhance their operations in the provinces. This is a proud moment for the industry & for consumers. Together we will attain Vision 2030.

Ndhlovu officially commissioned the Consumer Protection Commission Headquarters & a fleet of operational vehicles for enforcement & awareness inspectors. This goes a long way in making sure that the consumers are protected & their rights are upheld. The Ministry is cognisant that in order to attain an empowered & prosperous upper middle income economy, consumer rights must be upheld & prioritised to boost confidence & promote fair trade practice in the market. A BOLD VOTE OF CONFIDENCE IN ZIMBABWE’S INDUSTRIAL FUTURE 🇿🇼

Today, the Minister of Industry & Commerce Hon. N.M. Ndhlovu delivered remarks at the commissioning of the new Varun Beverages' snacks production plant in Harare.

He noted that in December 2024, the President, H.E Dr. E.D. Mnangagwa commissioned cordial & water production lines at the same site and laid the foundation stone for this snacks plant which is now fully operational.

Key highlights:
✅️ Zimbabwe has over US$4 billion worth of imports that can be substituted through local production

✅️ Manufactured exports grew 36% from US$103.7m (Q1 2025) to US$141.4m (Q1 2026)

✅️ Government facilitated the importation of US$62 million worth of manufacturing equipment through VAT deferments in Q1 2026

Hon. Ndhlovu said the investment reflects growing confidence in Zimbabwe’s economy, industrialisation drive, value addition agenda and the “Zimbabwe is Open for Business” policy under the Second Republic.
