In a significant political development, several members of Parliament in Zimbabwe have chosen to stand firm against, ZANU-PF, by refusing to attend a meeting led by Zanu PF enabler Sengezo Tshabangu. These honorable members among others include Hon. Ropafadzo Makumire, Hon. Martin Mureri, Hon. Agency Gumbo, Hon. Takudzwa Ngadziore, Hon. Gladys Hlatwayo, Hon. Clifford Hlatwayo, Hon. Joana Mamombe, Hon. John Kuka, Hon. Wellington Chikombo, and Hon. Corban Madzivanyika. Their refusal to participate in Tshabangu’s pro-ZANU-PF gathering has resonated positively with many citizens who view them as stalwarts of democratic values.

During yesterday's Tshabangu's parliamentary caucus meeting held in the new Parliament building, Tshabangu verbally reprimanded opposition MPs, particularly Hon. Sesiel Zvidzai and Hon. Agency Gumbo, for their defiance. According to an MP who attended the meeting but wished to remain anonymous for fear of retaliation, the gathering aimed to coerce opposition members into supporting ZANU-PF’s proposed Amendment of the Constitution of Zimbabwe Bill No. 3. Tshabangu’s confrontation with Zvidzai was particularly pointed as he stated, “Hon. Sesiel Zvidzai, thank you for attending today's meeting. However, you must cease your opposition to me alongside Welshman Ncube. You took me to court but lost, and you should no longer align with Ncube against me as I am his brother-in-law.”

Zvidzai, along with other CCC figures such as Hon. Charlton Hwende and Hon. Happmore Bvondo Chidziva, are known to be associated with Ncube's faction within the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC). This faction previously challenged Tshabangu’s leadership in court, a case they ultimately lost. Many Zimbabweans were taken aback to see these MPs attending Tshabangu's meeting, raising questions about their loyalties. One female member present noted that most of those who attended were Proportional Representatives and senators apprehensive about being recalled.
Tensions escalated during the meeting, leading to a palpable silence among opposition members when a visibly angry Tshabangu chastised Zvidzai. Following this, he directed his ire toward Gumbo, accusing him of collaborating with Senator Jameson Timba to undermine his leadership. Tshabangu expressed his intention to recall Gumbo from Parliament, emphasizing his frustration with the latter’s open dissent against him.
A parliamentarian who spoke with this reporter revealed that Tshabangu acknowledged the existence of three factions within the CCC: those loyal to Tshabangu, those aligned with Ncube, and those supporting Timba. He indicated that he would take decisive action against any MPs affiliated with Ncube’s or Timba’s camps. In an unexpected turn, Tshabangu also reprimanded his faction members during the meeting, alleging that some were consulting witchdoctors in a bid to dethrone him as Secretary General and leader of the opposition.
The atmosphere was charged as Tshabangu made it clear that he intends to recall any MP who refuses to support ZANU-PF’s 2030 agenda, as well as the proposed constitutional amendments.Tshabangu has already recalled numerous members of Parliament and councillors, which has enabled ZANU-PF to secure a majority in Parliament. This increase in their representation will facilitate ZANU-PF's efforts to achieve a two-thirds majority needed to amend the Constitution.
Many citizens share concerns that ZANU-PF and Tshabangu should not be allowed to alter the Constitution, viewing these changes as detrimental to democratic processes.
In his remarks, Tshabangu further claimed that Welshman Ncube had assisted him in taking the CCC’s leadership from President Nelson Chamisa, adding another layer of complexity to an already tumultuous political landscape.
