It was an honor to deliver the opening remarks today at the 4th Session of the Zimbabwe-South Africa Bi-National Commission (BNC) in Pretoria.

I want to extend my deepest gratitude to my brother, His Excellency President Cyril Ramaphosa, and the people of South Africa for their exceptionally warm welcome and generous hospitality.

Beyond our geographic borders, Zimbabwe and South Africa share deep-rooted historical relations, ancestry, cultural ties, and a common bond forged in our anti-colonial and anti-apartheid struggles. We are one people with linked destinies.

As we deliberate under the vital theme of infrastructure development, agriculture, and critical minerals transformation, our focus remains clear:

•De-risking our economies from external shocks
•Building strong, resilient regional supply chains
•Boosting mutual trade—noting that Zimbabwe imported $3.8 billion worth of goods from SA last year alone

Our partnerships across iron, steel, agriculture, healthcare, and education prove that together we are stronger. When South Africa thrives, Zimbabwe thrives too!

Let us continue to leverage our strategic economic projects to build a more prosperous future and a higher quality of life for all our peoples.

Fellow Zimbabweans,

Today, as we commemorate our 46th Heroes’ Day under the profound theme, "Lest we forget," we bow our heads in deep gratitude to the gallant sons and daughters of the soil who paid the ultimate price for our freedom, sovereignty, and dignity.

Our independence was not given on a silver platter; it was bought with blood, sweat, and tears. Today, we remember every sacrifice, honor our living veterans, and recommit ourselves to defending the legacy of unity, peace, and development they left behind.
Let us build our nation together, brick by brick, stone by stone.

Their dreams, hopes and aspirations are alive from generation to generation. As we carry on their legacy of fortitude, gallantry and patriotism, let us be aware that freedom , independence and sovereignty is not free but requires ongoing care ,vigilance and diligent stewardship.

Happy Heroes’ Day, Zimbabwe!

A NATION PAUSES: FINAL TRIBUTE TO NATIONAL HERO MAJ GEN (RTD) DZIHWEMA

Zimbabweans across the country have paused to pay ultimate respects as National Hero Major General (Retired) Evaristo Dzihwema is laid to rest at the National Heroes Acre. From the liberation struggle to the commander's desk, his life stands as an enduring monument to patriotism, courage and selfless national service.

This afternoon, I had the pleasure of hosting Prince Lindani Dlamini of the Kingdom of Eswatini and his delegation at State House, where we reinforced the robust historical, fraternal, and cultural ties that unite Zimbabwe and Eswatini.

Our discussions focused on enhancing bilateral trade, identifying new investment prospects, and promoting industrial partnerships to stimulate economic growth. We underscored our mutual commitment to regional integration, peace, and sustainable economic development within the Southern African Development Community region.

Our strategic priorities encompass strengthening cooperation to improve the lives of our citizens, unlocking new economic opportunities for youth empowerment and industrial innovation, and advancing together towards a more integrated and prosperous continent.
