Injuries ravage Zimbabwe!

𝗠𝗔𝗗𝗛𝗘𝗩𝗘𝗥𝗘 𝗖𝗔𝗟𝗟𝗘𝗗 𝗨𝗣 𝗔𝗦 𝗜𝗡𝗝𝗨𝗥𝗜𝗘𝗦 𝗥𝗔𝗩𝗔𝗚𝗘 𝗭𝗜𝗠𝗕𝗔𝗕𝗪𝗘

Zimbabwe will be without the injured trio of Sean Williams, Prince Masvaure and Craig Ervine when they face Pakistan in the second Test match scheduled to get underway at Harare Sports Club this Friday.

As a result, Wessly Madhevere has been called up, while Takudzwanashe Kaitano, who joined the squad as cover on the eve of the first game last week, has been retained.

Williams is still recuperating from a soft tissue injury to his left hand that has dogged him throughout this series.

Masvaure was ruled out after the left-hand injury he suffered while fielding on the second day of the first Test turned out to be a thumb dislocation-fracture.

Ervine was expected to be back for the second five-day match, but he has not yet fully recovered from the calf injury that he sustained in the first Twenty20 international game against Pakistan a fortnight ago.

With the skipper Williams out, Brendan Taylor will once again stand in as Zimbabwe captain for the second Test.

Meanwhile, Joylord Gumbie remains on standby.

Zimbabwe Test Squad:

Taylor Brendan (captain), Chakabva Regis, Chisoro Tendai, Chivanga Tanaka, Jongwe Luke, Kaia Roy, Kaitano Takudzwanashe, Kasuza Kevin, Madhevere Wessly, Masakadza Wellington, Musakanda Tarisai, Muzarabani Blessing, Ngarava Richard, Nyauchi Victor, Shumba Milton, Tiripano Donald

Zimbabwe Cricket Supporters Union's response to the ban by ICC - International Cricket Council

We stand by SRC Zimbabwe

ZCSU 100% behind SRC

8 July 2019

The Zimbabwe Cricket Supporters Union has welcomed the intervention by the Sports and Recreation Commission in the running of Cricket in Zimbabwe. ZCSU has been amongst those who had over the years wrote to SRC and the Ministry of Sports to intervene in cricket administration as it was clear that the Board has failed to execute it's mandate.

Zimbabwe Cricket came back from self imposed Test Exile in 2011 beating Bangladesh twice at home, drawing a Test Series against Pakistan, playing competitively against New Zealand and Sri Lanka in the first 3 years. From that time Zimbabwe Cricket competitiveness has been waning each series with a low of failing to even qualify for the 2019 Cricket World Cup after being beaten by minnows UAE.

After the disastrous World Cup Qualifiers, calls for the resignation of the entire ZC Board grew louder but the Board did not heed the call and we called upon SRC to intervene but to no avail. We are happy that at long last SRC has intervened.

As ZCSU, we expect the following:

1. Thorough audits of ZC finances and bringing to book all those who corruptly benefited from ZC coffers.

2.Appointment of professionals with a sound cricket background to run the affairs of Cricket in Zimbabwe.

3. Solid grassroots programs to produce future cricketers.

Lastly we call upon ICC to be lenient with Zimbabwe as it seeks to cleanse and put it's house in order. As Supporters we are 100% behind this SRC intervention and we believe it is for the best for the game of in Zimbabwe. It is clear that in the last 5 years the game hasn't been growing as the results are showing, so in deed it needed drastic actions to stop the rot and re-configure the compass.

We conclude by thanking SRC for finally heeding our calls and suspending the ZC Board.

Thank you

This is our game! We love Cricket!

Day 3; stumps. Zim 356 &252/6 after 68 overs. Sri-Lanka 346. Zim lead by 262 runs with 4 wickets remaining. Raza(97) approaching a deserved century, ably-supported by Waller(57). We have surpassed our 250 target set by Streak. This has been sensible batting by Zim after a woeful top-order collapse in the morning session. I am glad someone has taken charge. Raza should continue and has shown a good cricketing head.
