Zimbabwe Cricket Supporters Union's response to the ban by ICC - International Cricket Council
We stand by SRC Zimbabwe
ZCSU 100% behind SRC
8 July 2019
The Zimbabwe Cricket Supporters Union has welcomed the intervention by the Sports and Recreation Commission in the running of Cricket in Zimbabwe. ZCSU has been amongst those who had over the years wrote to SRC and the Ministry of Sports to intervene in cricket administration as it was clear that the Board has failed to execute it's mandate.
Zimbabwe Cricket came back from self imposed Test Exile in 2011 beating Bangladesh twice at home, drawing a Test Series against Pakistan, playing competitively against New Zealand and Sri Lanka in the first 3 years. From that time Zimbabwe Cricket competitiveness has been waning each series with a low of failing to even qualify for the 2019 Cricket World Cup after being beaten by minnows UAE.
After the disastrous World Cup Qualifiers, calls for the resignation of the entire ZC Board grew louder but the Board did not heed the call and we called upon SRC to intervene but to no avail. We are happy that at long last SRC has intervened.
As ZCSU, we expect the following:
1. Thorough audits of ZC finances and bringing to book all those who corruptly benefited from ZC coffers.
2.Appointment of professionals with a sound cricket background to run the affairs of Cricket in Zimbabwe.
3. Solid grassroots programs to produce future cricketers.
Lastly we call upon ICC to be lenient with Zimbabwe as it seeks to cleanse and put it's house in order. As Supporters we are 100% behind this SRC intervention and we believe it is for the best for the game of in Zimbabwe. It is clear that in the last 5 years the game hasn't been growing as the results are showing, so in deed it needed drastic actions to stop the rot and re-configure the compass.
We conclude by thanking SRC for finally heeding our calls and suspending the ZC Board.
This is our game! We love Cricket!

THANK YOU RAZA, BT and PJ.
ZIMBABWEAN cricketers will finally get the much needed game time after Afghanistan confirmed their tour of Zimbabwe where they will play five One Day Internationals in April.
United Arab Emirates, who denied the Chevrons a ticket to this year’s Cricket World Cup in England could also be heading to Zimbabwe in April as well with the tour still to be officially agreed upon between the respective boards.
Zimbabwe Cricket acting managing director, Givemore Makoni on Friday said that all matters pertaining to Afghanistan’s tour of Zimbabwe have been finalised, with the Asians to play five One Day Internationals at Harare Sports Club on 18, 20, 23, 25 and 29 April.
“The Afghanistan tour has been confirmed, they will play five ODIs at Harare Sports Club. We are waiting to confirm the UAE tour,’’ Makoni said.
ZC and their ACB counterparts are sharing expenses for the Afghanistan’s tour of Zimbabwe. Due to ZC’s financial state of affairs, the International Cricket Council had advised the local cricket governing body that Afghanistan’s tour of Zimbabwe be pushed to next year. This is because such tours do not generate any financial revenue for ZC and actually result in losses.
With Afghanistan gearing up for the Cricket World Cup which starts on 30 May, the Asians requested to tour Zimbabwe.
It is envisaged that UAE’s visit to Zimbabwe will serve as a warm up for the Chevrons as they brace for Afghanistan. If the UAE tour goes ahead, they will play four ODIs in Harare on 7, 9, 11 and 13 April.
UAE shocked a packed Harare Sports Club on 22 March last year when they defeated the Chevrons by three runs through the Duckworth Lewis method, a result which means Zimbabwe will not be at the World Cup having been at previous editions since 1983.
Zimbabwe last played international cricket in November last year when they took on Bangladesh in the Asian country.
Those in and around Bulawayo let's make it to Queens Sports Club for a Cricket filled fun day!

After the protests we will deliver a letter of disappointment to the Zimbabwe Cricket Board copied to SRC, Ministry of Sports and ICC.

4. To the ZC Board
We expected you to step down after the failure to qualify but we didn't get any resignations. Some of the Board Members are clueless about the game of Cricket and don't deserve to lead the sport at that level. Now that you have not resigned we call upon you to start the process of elections to elect a new ZC Board. We expect you to do this without any push but for your love of the game but if push is needed we will gladly accept the challenge.
5. To former Players
We feel very much that you have contributed to the fall of Cricket in Zimbabwe as most of you are either interested in being appointed into coaching and other positions into ZC for pay but failing to get into proper administration of the game. Very few former players are leading Cricket clubs for them to be eligible for election into ZC Board. It's sad to realise that Cyprian Mandenge who is in to rugby served for over 8 years as ZC Board member at National Level when former players are happy as fielding coaches.
6. To the Supporters
We urge you to remain calm as we seek a solution to the challenges facing our Sports. We also urge you not to be used by individuals in this fight. Let's remember that we're in this predicament because of the direct political interference in the game over a decade ago. We believe the challenges can be solved in cricket circles and make cricket the winner at the and of the day. Let us use Cricket as a Sport that unifies people as we have Whites, Blacks, Indians and Coloureds all involved in Cricket.
Released by the Office of the Chairman Zimbabwe Cricket Supporters Union
As a follow up and to show that the game has remained alive in Zimbabwe, we expect ZC to announce the National team and Zimbabwe A future tours, solid domestic games in all forms of the game that is First Class, List A and T20 at franchise level, Under 19 schedules, club cricket and developmental grassroots projects. We expect ZC to come up with a proper and all inclusive Schools cricket structures and to establish a Universities League to cater for Cricket players who are at the local Universities.
As the Supporters Union we feel the failure to qualify for the World Cup and the subsequent challenges may signify the death of Cricket as a National and Professional sport in Zimbabwe. To preserve the game the Zimbabwe Cricket Supporters Union is making the following strong recommendations targeted to various stakeholders of the game in Zimbabwe.
1. To the Players
We urge you, all the players in Zimbabwe to remain united and continue playing the game for the future of the game in Zimbabwe is dependent upon you. Make sure you put your effort at every level you are participating.
2. To the former Technical Team
We urge you to leave in peace and not drag the game into disrepute. We understand that no one wants to be fired from anywhere but we believe your sacking was justified by your failure to qualify and the shortcomings we raised earlier. We urge you to take a break and return at some point as your experience is very valuable to the game of Cricket in Zimbabwe.
3. To the Management
We urge you to continue management of the game in a transparent manner without corrupt activities like what happened during the Qualifiers. We have it on good authority that Zimbabwe failed to pay players in hard cash like all other countries and also that money for Net bowlers was abused by some in the Management. We call upon those implicated in these deal to voluntarily resign to save the game of Cricket in Zimbabwe
Press Release 03/2018
9 April 2018
Zimbabwe Cricket Supporters Union
Zimbabwe Cricket Supporters Union would like to start by thanking multitudes of Zimbabweans who braved through wet weather to support the National Team and the whole World Cup Qualifiers Tournament.
Secondly we would like to thank ICC and ZC for the hosting rights and a well organised tournament. This is to date the biggest tournament to be hosted by Zimbabwe in a long time. In Soccer the dream to host Afcon finals has remained a dream but in cricket we got a big tourney.
Thirdly we want to express our disappointment to Zimbabwe Cricket Team's failure to qualify for the World Cup. We were gutted and the ever happy Castle Corner was turned into a funeral parlour as fans wept uncontrollably after the 3 run loss to UAE.
After such a heartbreaking moment as fans we expected apologies, resignations and heads rolling from the Players, Technical team, Management and the Board.
What we expected
1. Greame Cremer to step down as Captain during post match interview
2. Coach and Technical Team to voluntarily resign citing failure to qualify for a major event.
3. Members of the Management to resign citing failure to provide for the team to achieve qualification
4. Board Members resigning showing remorse that during their term in office Zimbabwe has failed to qualify for the World Cup since 1983.
All these expectations were not met and the ZC Board went on to fire the entire Technical team and the Team Captain.
Position on the sacking of the Technical Team
As ZCSU we are fully behind ZC decision to fire the whole technical team after the disastrous World Cup Qualifiers. A lot of technical challenges were very vivid during the tournament from poor team selection, wrong batting positioning, sticking with out of form players and wrong bowling changes and choices.
However we would like to note that this decision has been received with mixed feelings by fans and other stakeholders.
The @ZimCricketv Supporters Union will release a Press Statement tomorrow at 13:30 hrs CAT. It covers expectations, position on the sacking of the Technical Team & recommendations. @kwirirayi @yvonnemangunda @Starfmsport @SportsonSfm @ZiFMSport @DailyNewsZim @HeraldZimbabwe
For the love of the game
Zimbabwe Cricket must #shine_on
Zimbabwe Cricket Supporters Union
The official Supporters Union in Zimbabwe is calling upon all supporters of the game of Cricket in Zimbabwe to come in their numbers to watch the 2018 ICC World Cup Qualifiers at Harare Sports Club on Sunday 25 March 2018.
The final pitting hard hitting West Indies, crowd favourites and the resilient Afghanistan will start at 9:30 AM. The tour were favourites to meet in the final when the tournament started and they have gone though up and downs throughout the tournament but at the end they both qualified and are meeting in the mouth watering final.
West Indies lost only one match throughout the qualifiers and are favourites but the only match they lost was against Afghanistan. On the other hand Afghanistan lost their opening 3 games but won the last four to grab a position in the final.
As the Supporters Union we are calling fans to come to enjoy the game of Cricket and to end the tournament on the high. The whole world was shocked to realise that the sport of Cricket is still loved that much in Zimbabwe when all matches featuring Zimbabwe were oversubscribed with the pinnacle being the 15 000 strong continent that witnessed the Zimbabwe UAE match. For the first time in it's history Harare Sports Club gates were closed as the stadia was full.
As the fans we must thank ICC for granting Zimbabwe the chance to host the mini World Cup. We must show our appreciation by attending the final match on Sunday. Zimbabwe host a few games and it was a marvel to watch over 30 matches inside 3 weeks. There was nothing bigger than this is the history of Cricket in Zimbabwe.
Let us thank ICC by showing up in numbers on Sunday!
