JOIN THE NATIONAL CLEAN-UP CAMPAIGN TOMORROW!
Hwange Local Board calls upon all residents, businesses, community groups, schools, churches, vendors, and other stakeholders to actively participate in the National Clean-Up Campaign tomorrow.
A clean environment is everyone's responsibility. By dedicating just a little time to picking up litter, sweeping our surroundings, clearing illegal dumping sites, and properly disposing of waste, we can make a significant difference in keeping our communities clean, healthy, and attractive.
We encourage residents to clean around their homes and neighborhoods, while businesses and institutions are urged to ensure their premises and surrounding areas are litter-free. Collective action is key to promoting environmental sustainability and preventing diseases associated with poor waste management.
Let us come together and demonstrate our commitment to environmental stewardship by making the National Clean-Up Campaign a success.
Together, we can build a cleaner, healthier, and greener Hwange.

PROMOTING A CLEANER AND GREENER HWANGE
Hwange Local Board, through its partnership with Hwange Electricity Supply Company, has begun installing steel litter bins along busy roads and strategic locations within its area of jurisdiction as part of ongoing efforts to reduce roadside littering and improve environmental cleanliness.
The initiative is aimed at providing residents, commuters, vendors and visitors with convenient waste disposal facilities, thereby helping to keep public spaces clean and attractive. Proper waste disposal is essential in preventing environmental pollution, reducing health risks and maintaining the town's image as a clean and welcoming place to live, work and invest.
Hwange Local Board urges all residents and stakeholders to make use of the bins and avoid littering. Keeping our environment clean is a shared responsibility, and together we can build a healthier, cleaner and more sustainable community for present and future generations.
A clean Hwange is everyone's responsibility. Let us all play our part.

ROAD SAFETY IMPROVEMENTS UNDERWAY IN HWANGE
Hwange Local Board is currently undertaking road marking works and enhancing the visibility of road signs across its jurisdiction as part of its routine road maintenance programme.
The exercise is aimed at improving road safety for motorists, pedestrians and cyclists by ensuring that road users can clearly identify traffic signs, lane markings, pedestrian crossings and other important road guidance features. Well-maintained road markings and visible signs help to reduce accidents, improve traffic flow and create a safer road environment for everyone.
Council remains committed to maintaining road infrastructure and providing quality services that contribute to the safety, convenience and well-being of residents and visitors.
We kindly urge all road users to exercise caution in areas where maintenance works are taking place and to adhere to all traffic regulations for the safety of workers and fellow road users.
Together, let us promote safer roads and a cleaner, better Hwange.

FBC Building Society has completed the construction of a biodigester that is set to benefit approximately 200 households from the 764 residential stands under development in the area.
This important installation will provide a sustainable and environmentally friendly waste management solution while laying the foundation for improved sanitation and potential biogas use by beneficiary households. The project reflects a practical commitment to modern, climate-smart infrastructure within the new settlement.
In addition, FBC Building Society has commenced opening up a road to improve access at Empumalanga Phase 4, a settlement near where it is servicing stands. The new road will make it easier for residents and service providers to reach the area, accelerating housing development and improving overall mobility.
These developments mark significant progress in preparing the settlement for safe, accessible, and sustainable living.

Hwange Local Board is pleased to note that a number of lodges within the town are operating in full compliance with approved change-of-use regulations, such as the one pictured here. This demonstrates that development and business growth can take place while still adhering to laid-down planning procedures that protect the integrity, safety, and order of our community.
Council would like to remind all property owners and investors that converting residential properties into lodges, offices, or any other commercial use requires prior approval through the proper change-of-use process. These procedures are in place to ensure that issues such as zoning, infrastructure capacity, parking, environmental considerations, and neighborhood harmony are properly addressed.
We therefore encourage anyone intending to undertake such conversions to visit the Hwange Local Board offices and engage with our Planning Department for guidance before proceeding.
Let us all work together to promote orderly development and responsible investment in Hwange.

19/05/2026

Hwange Local Board is currently conducting an inspection exercise to identify properties that have been converted into lodges and offices without complying with the required change-of-use procedures and regulations.

Property owners and operators are reminded that any conversion of residential premises into commercial use must be approved through the proper channels in line with Council by-laws and planning regulations. This process helps ensure public safety, proper service provision, orderly development, and fairness to all compliant businesses.

Those who have made such changes without approval are encouraged to approach the Council offices to regularise their properties and avoid penalties or enforcement measures.

Hwange Local Board remains committed to promoting planned development, lawful business operations, and improved service delivery for the community.
