Hon. Chamu Chiwanza Celebrates Young Athletes at Mubaira District Athletics Competitions, Pledges Support for Talent Development and Drug-Free Youth
‎
‎Yesterday marked a joyous occasion in the Mhondoro Mubaira Constituency as local Member of Parliament, Hon. Chamu Chiwanza, graced the Mubaira District Athletics Competitions as the Guest of Honour. The event took place at Mukono Primary School, which hosted this year's competition, featuring participation from 36 primary schools across various athletic disciplines.
‎
‎Hon. Chiwanza was warmly welcomed by Mr. Shava, the NAPH Provincial Organising Secretary, along with other NAPH leaders and school heads. In his address, Hon. Chiwanza commended the event organizers and expressed heartfelt gratitude to the Second Republic, under the leadership of President Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa, for implementing the Heritage Based Curriculum, which aims to recognize, support, and nurture learners with talents in various athletic disciplines as part of their educational journey.
‎
‎During his speech, Hon Chiwanza encouraged the competing learners to take the athletics competitions seriously, emphasizing the potential for some to pursue these sports as careers that could provide a sustainable livelihood. He underscored the importance of discipline and dedication in achieving success. Moreover, he issued a strong message against drug and substance abuse, warning that such behaviors could jeopardize their futures. His call to collective action in fighting drug abuse aligns with President Mnangagwa's vision for a drug-free Zimbabwe by 2030.
‎
‎In an exciting announcement, Hon Chiwanza introduced the Chamu Chiwanza Trophies, which will reward schools with Trophies and monetary prizes for first to third place in all NAPH Mubaira District sporting disciplines starting in 2026, extending through 2030. This initiative aims to motivate learners to take athletics seriously and strive for excellence.
‎
‎As a development-oriented MP, Hon Chiwanza also pledged to repaint Mukono Primary School in order to enhance the learning environment. In line with President Mnangagwa's focus on digital inclusion, Hon Chiwanza committed to installing Starlink Kits at schools throughout the Mhondoro-Mubaira Constituency starting next week, aiming to boost internet connectivity for these rural institutions.
‎
‎In his vote of thanks, Mr. Shava expressed gratitude to Hon. Chiwanza for attending the event and making donations. He promised to extend an invitation for Hon. Chiwanza to attend NAPH future events annually, a sentiment that aligns well with Hon Chiwanza's recent appointment as Chairman of the Parliamentary Portfolio of Sports, Arts, and Recreation by the Parliament of Zimbabwe.
‎
‎The day concluded on a high note, leaving a lasting impression on participants, organizers and attendees alike, and reaffirming the commitment to nurturing young athletic talent in Mubaira District and Mashonaland West Province at large.
