Yesterday, the 25th of May 2025, as we commemorated the important occasion of Africa Day, I was greatly honoured to join the Mother of the Nation, Auxilia Mnangagwa, who was the Guest of Honour at the Amai’s National Cookout Competitions held in Kwekwe. The event continues to reignite pride in our rich indigenous Zimbabwean cuisine by encouraging communities to prepare, share, preserve, and modernise traditional dishes using locally available ingredients such as madora, matemba, sorghum, millet, and baobab products. It also promotes the preservation of our cultural heritage while advancing food security and nutrition.Importantly, the competition serves as a powerful platform for community empowerment and economic inclusion, particularly for women, youth, and persons with disabilities. Through culinary innovation and entrepreneurship, many are being equipped to transform traditional cooking skills into sustainable livelihoods and income-generating enterprises. In line with the Second Republic’s Vision 2030 and His Excellency President of the Republic of Zimbabwe Cde Dr E.D Mnangagwa's philosophy of “Leaving No One and No Place behind,” the initiative also strengthens value chains by integrating local farmers, food producers, small-scale entrepreneurs, and players in the hospitality sector into one inclusive developmental framework. The Amai’s National Cookout Competitions are therefore not only celebrating African identity and culture, but are also contributing meaningfully towards rural industrialisation, empowerment, and national economic growth.

Today, I joined fellow Honourable Ministers, senior Government officials, diplomats and development partners at the ongoing three-day sensitisation workshop in Harare (6–8 May 2026) on the domestication of the Comprehensive Africa Agriculture Development Programme (CAADP) Kampala Declaration. The workshop seeks to transform Zimbabwe’s agricultural sector from primarily food production into a modern agro-industrial hub driven by innovation, value addition and sustainable economic growth. It also aligns our national agricultural policies with the continental 2026–2035 agenda, with particular emphasis on climate resilience, industrialisation, inclusive growth and strengthened agricultural value chains. As Government, we remain committed to repositioning agriculture from a subsistence and food security sector into a business-oriented and value chain-driven pillar of economic transformation. Zimbabwe is therefore integrating the CAADP Kampala Declaration into the Agriculture Food Systems and Rural Transformation Strategy as well as the National Development Strategy 2 (NDS2).Importantly, the framework prioritises the empowerment of women, youth and marginalised communities, in line with the vision of His Excellency, the President of the Republic of Zimbabwe, Cde Dr E.D. Mnangagwa, of “Leaving No One and No Place Behind.”Through collective commitment, strategic partnerships and policy alignment, Zimbabwe continues to advance towards a prosperous, resilient and industrialised agricultural economy that uplifts livelihoods and contributes meaningfully to Vision 2030.
