NYANGA – Nyanga Rural District Council (RDC) has invested US$302 365 in three earth-moving machines as it moves to improve road construction, maintenance and other service delivery operations.
The latest acquisition is a brand new 21-tonne Shacman tipper truck bought for US$82 950 using council’s own-source funds and delivered on Wednesday. Council also bought a 14-tonne vibratory steel roller for US$69 415, while a CAT140 motorised grader was acquired in April for US$150 000.
Nyanga RDC Acting Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Samuel Myambo said the new truck would strengthen the council’s fleet, which had been relying on an ageing tipper bought about a decade ago.
We are pleased to have received the delivery of the 21-tonne tipper truck, which will beef up our service delivery in Nyanga as part of the new equipment we are acquiring this year. At the moment, we had only one tipper, which we bought sometime around 2016, and it is now getting old, and on its own it was inadequate, hence the decision to buy another. We are happy to have bought it,” said Myambo.
Myambo said the council was also expecting delivery of a motorised water bowser in September, with the newly acquired equipment expected to be commissioned during the first half of September.
The equipment will be used for road construction and maintenance, gravel and material transportation and other public works.
He said the council still needed more equipment and hoped support from residents and ratepayers would enable it to continue strengthening its fleet.
