We respectfully call on the Prime Minister of Malaysia, Anwar Ibrahim
Rohingya refugees are not migrants by choice — they are survivors of genocide. They are fathers who watched their families burned alive, mothers who carried their children through fire and fear and children who have known nothing but violence, displacement and loss.
They fled Myanmar not for opportunity but for survival.
For decades, Rohingya people have been denied citizenship, stripped of basic human rights and subjected to systematic violence. Entire villages were destroyed, thousands were killed and many more were forced to cross dangerous seas with nothing but hope.
Malaysia became a destination because it represents safety, dignity, and a shared sense of humanity. Many Rohingya believed they would find protection in a Muslim-majority country that understands suffering and compassion.
But today, many of these same survivors are being detained, arrested, and treated as criminals — despite having committed no crime except escaping death.
We urge your government to:
• Release Rohingya detainees from detention centers and prisons
• Provide access to UNHCR ID cards so they can be recognized and protected
• Stop arrests and ensure humane, dignified treatment
• Allow children access to education — they deserve a future, not a lifetime of fear
• Ensure families are not separated — they have already lost too much
• Recognize that trauma does not end at the border; detention only deepens their suffering
These are not numbers. These are human beings carrying deep scars — both visible and invisible.
Every Rohingya refugee in Malaysia has a story of survival:
— A child who has never seen a classroom
— A mother who still wakes up to nightmares of violence
— A father who risks everything just to keep his family alive
Detention does not solve their pain. Compassion does.
Malaysia has the opportunity to stand on the right side of history — to lead with humanity, to protect the persecuted, and to show the world what true justice looks like.
Stand for justice. Stand for humanity.
