HE Prof. Arusha Cooray, Ambassador of Sri Lanka to the United Arab Emirates and the Consul General of Sri Lanka to Dubai and the Northern Emirates, Mr. Alexi Gunasekera, together with the diplomatic staff warmly welcomed the Honourable Vijitha Herath, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment, and Tourism, upon his arrival at Dubai International Airport.
Hon. Minister Herath is visiting the United Arab Emirates to grace the second edition of “Sri Lanka Beyond Your Dreams”—the flagship promotional event organized by the Consulate General of Sri Lanka in Dubai to showcase the country’s rich heritage, tourism potential, trade and investment opportunities.

𝐒𝐫𝐢 𝐋𝐚𝐧𝐤𝐚 𝐄𝐱𝐭𝐞𝐧𝐝𝐬 𝐔𝐒$ 𝟏 𝐌𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐇𝐮𝐦𝐚𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐚𝐧 𝐀𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐭𝐨 𝐍𝐞𝐩𝐚𝐥

In a demonstration of Sri Lanka’s solidarity with the people of Nepal following the devastating floods and landslides that have caused loss of life, displacement and widespread destruction, His Excellency President Anura Kumara Disanayaka has directed the Government to provide a financial contribution of US$ 1 million to Nepal to support its ongoing humanitarian and relief efforts.

The President expressed his deep sorrow at the tragic loss of lives and the suffering caused by the disaster, and conveyed the heartfelt condolences of the Government and people of Sri Lanka to the Government and people of Nepal, particularly to the families who have lost their loved ones.

Recalling the close and longstanding bonds of friendship and solidarity between Sri Lanka and Nepal, the President emphasized that Sri Lanka stands firmly with the people of Nepal in this hour of need. The financial contribution is intended to support immediate relief and humanitarian assistance to communities affected by the floods and landslides.

Earlier this morning, Foreign Minister Vijitha Herath spoke with his Nepalese counterpart Foreign Minister Shisir Khanal, conveying Sri Lanka’s condolences, steadfast support and solidarity with Nepal.

The Government of Sri Lanka will remain engaged closely with the Government of Nepal and continue to explore appropriate avenues through which Sri Lanka can contribute to the relief and recovery efforts.

The Consulate General of Sri Lanka in Dubai together with the Bank of Ceylon (BOC) successfully conducted an awareness session on financial literacy for the employees of AGFM on 15.08.2026 at the AGFM company premises in Sonapur, Dubai. The programme was coordinated by the Employment & Welfare Section of the Consulate.
Ms.Manori Vithanapathirana ,Counsellor E&W and officials from the E & W Section of SLCG Dubai attended the event together with the representatives of the BOC. The awareness session was successfully conducted, providing the employees with valuable information on financial literacy and responsible financial management.

Consul General Meets ALA Developments CEO to Discuss Investment Opportunities

Consul General of Sri Lanka Alexi Gunasekera, together with Head of Chancery Subashini Silva, met with Prithala, CEO of ALA Developments Mr. Hassan Raza and senior officials of the company at the Consulate General of Sri Lanka in Dubai.

The discussions focused on investment opportunities in Sri Lanka, with particular emphasis on projects available within the Colombo Port City and investment opportunities under the Urban Development Authority (UDA).

The Consul General highlighted Sri Lanka’s growing potential as an attractive destination for real estate and infrastructure investment and encouraged ALA Developments to explore opportunities that could contribute to Sri Lanka’s economic development while offering attractive prospects for investors. Following the discussions, the ALA Developments team expressed their interest in exploring these opportunities further and is expected to undertake a visit to Sri Lanka in September to meet with relevant stakeholders and examine potential investment projects.
